Yeah I was going to say I'm not a fan of the "macho" sound but left it out.

I really am liking this song, but I'd still take DOTC over it for now.

it sounds different on each streaming platform. hopefully because it was mastered quiet and each streaming service had to add their own compression but probably not.

EV sounds great on this, because he is in the mix and not on top, it allows him to be aggressive within the music rather than sticking out and having to overthink every syllable. the vocal melody is very fun and reminds me of a lost dog track somehow. excellent work EV and wontman.. :nice:

the whole thing sounds refreshing like DOTC did and clears the palette of the last few albums..

that being said;take away the cool vocal melody and it is a bit of an overblown meat and bun rocker. not a fan of the relentless pounding, or main riff that sounds like wotman interrupted stone, took his guitar and said "no, like this!"
Just checked Spotify credits, it lists as written by everyone in the band INCLUDING Andrew Watt.
Yes it is lacking Stones touch. The straight up power chords may at some point should have been exchanged for something a little more dynamic. Inversions not sure though it is clean though.

i was expecting much less so its a win.
Not sure how I changed your post. Sorry.

How the fuck is Ed gonna perform this live. I think he'll be letting the crowd handle the chorus or they'll drop it from setlists pretty swiftly.

Amazing stuff, old boys. Amazing stuff.
Is it weird to be proud of a group of old folks for accomplishing this, like they're family?
No :)

Really, really like the song. The lyrics hit home, with what's been happening in my country and also elsewhere with people dying for no fault of their own. I don't get all of them and I don't know what Ed was thinking when he wrote them, but they hit me hard.

As far as the song goes overall, I do love it but won't say it surpasses DOTC as the first single. Then again, it's a totally different type of song. Given that I've not loved PJ's faster/harder rocking tunes as much, in general, as the slower or mid-tempo stuff since probably Vitalogy (yikes), this gives me hope that the new album will be awesome.

no chance eddie and matt will (can?) replicate this in the real world of a live show.

eddie doesn’t stretch too much for the bulk of the song, but the times where does sound very fake. we got plenty of that in the earthling rockers. fucking hoover..

the song’s ok, but it’s not doing a ton for me at the moment.

If B’OB had produced this there would have been an Ed screech at 2:47. It feels like they’ve made good choices in the studio. Fingers crossed team.

And yes, Ed sounds great without really going for anything too ambitious vocally. The screamier parts of the song are not screechy, which I guess had been putting some people off recently. I don't think Ed will have much trouble replicating this live, at least most of it.

Like Vs and Vitalogy it's credited to all (incl Wotman), maybe that goes for the whole record?

But the main riff does sound like something Stone would write. And yes, Matt finally has a heavy funk groove... And that sure makes me excited. Last year Jeff said something in an interview that they play to each others strength (orso). And they haven't done that in a while, but here it is....

My Spotify algorithm played “Say It Ain’t So” after this song, which I thought was hilarious.
