How can this song remind some people of Ten is beyond me.

While I like this song, I hope this is the only song in this style on the record. Assuming this takes the spot that MYM/MFS did on LB and Quick Escape on Gigaton as the "hard rock" song on track 3 or 4 I am very happy with it. I like this quite a bit more than Quick Escape. Too many songs in this vain would be quite exhausting. This kind of song is good in small doses but leaves so little breathing room that I don't want 2-3 of them in a row.
The reviews of the listening party make me a little bit worried that the first part is the album is full of full on hard rock songs. But we will see.

With you on this, but I don't think I'm worried about the album being packed with too many of these.

I’m surprised so many people are complimenting Ed’s work on this. Yes, it’s not word salad — that’s great. And yes, his track is situated comfortably in the mix — also great. But his actual voice is sounding pretty rough.

I disagree; he sounds his age, definitely not "rough"

Anthony Kiedis and Thom Yorke are of a similar age and they both sound fantastic.

they never did what he's done with their voice, come on; Kiedis never reached those notes, when Ed was screaming Kiedis was rapping about nonsense; and I love Thom Yorke but he's a late night lava lamps out downbeat indie crooner, always has been

and Kiedis' band has always sucked ass

Speaking as someone with a Peppers tattoo, I'll respectfully disagree. Frusciante getting clean inspired me as a young man and surely played a part as a primary reason why I'm sitting here today. That's neither here nor there.

Trag, my man...The Kiedis comment throws all of your other wonderful insights in this thread into question. There's so much autotune and processing on Tony Flow for the last few Peppers records that he may as well be a plastic toy with a string in his back, at this point. His voice has been horrific live for the past two decades, at least. I say that as a dyed in the wool fan who has attended every tour since '92.

Ed has sounded like a man reborn on Earthling and here. He's not haunted by the same ghosts, but, the righteous desperation is still there.

I totally agree on how they approach their voices — Ed has been throwing his to the rafters since the 1980s.

As such, it’s showing its age.

A big part of what makes DOTC such a success is that he’s not swinging for the fences, not even once. He commands his voice in that song, so the lyrics and performance connect.

Here he sounds incredibly inspired, but also pretty tired.

if we're comparing this with DOTC then yes, but that song was more downbeat and reflective, more WMA than Blood

if this is a taste of "swinging for the fences" on this album I don't think Ed will be screeching too much, so that's fine; I'll allow it once or twice

Listened a few more times this morning. It’s just so fucking fun and energizing. And the songs I tend to love most are the mid-tempo ones that soar, but I love this. I find myself belting along with the chorus.

It’s deceptively simple on the surface, but there are many innovative touches and tweaks they’ve made that make the song a different experience. You’ll notice those more on the instrumental version.

Nothing but love from me either, but I prefer RM in several ways. I think the Pit gets cluttered, and a bit one dimensional (not about PJ, but in a more general sense). Also heavier moderated.
