Re: Infallible
At the risk of throwing myself to the wolves, I'm not sure I get the infatuation with Tremor Christ, and I would call Infallible the better song, and certainly the more interesting song. Infallible is endlessly listenable to me. Tremor Christ might have a bigger catharsis, but Infallible is better on the whole.
As a side note, it's also a song that seems to give Matt some room to breathe, and one of his better performances with this band imo.

Matt certainly does catch his breath to breathe in this song, which is one of the things I really enjoy about it. But are we saying the drumming here is better than Tremor Christ's as well? I hope not...

No, I wouldn't call the drumming in Infallible better than TC-- not in a vacuum anyway. I just think this song is a finer construction. Tremor Christ has a lot going for it, but it bores me a little.harmless wrote:Matt certainly does catch his breath to breathe in this song, which is one of the things I really enjoy about it. I'm going to listen to Tremor Christ and try and find it really boring, just so I know where you're coming from.

Next time I'm in my car I'll put it back on to analyze. It's one I skip a lot. My truncated memories of Tremor Christ are summarized thusly: "Plodding. Boring guitar. Why bother?"harmless wrote:![]()

Re: Infallible
Fair enough. One possibility I am open to is that when Tremor Christ came out, that just wasn't the sound I wanted out of this band; many albums later, my expectations have fallen away somewhat and I am just more willing to appreciate things as they come.harmless wrote:= a lot of people's reactions to Infallible.griffinxi wrote:"Plodding. Still, I maintain that Tremor Christ does not really change much for its duration; it might intensify, rise and abate, but it doesn't really "travel" anywhere. In other words, if you don't dig that initial vibe, you're unlikely to change your opinion, whereas w/ Infallible there are different entry points to the song. Even if you might not dig the tone shift from Infallible's verse to the chorus, there is a dynamic quality there that Tremor Christ lacks.
On the other hand, if Tremor Christ has what you want, you're satisfied from start to finish.
