My vote is to do both.

Run the tourney with 7 "regions" so 7 songs advance.

When Dark Matter is released, let those songs face off against each other with the winner being the 8th song to advance.

This should probably work from a timing perspective too.

Changed my vote. This is the last opportunity to run the tourney without the Dark Matter songs, which will forever be on all the other tourneys right? So doesn’t it make sense to have one last hurrah where Bugs has a real chance to make it this time?

I think having a fresh album in is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The time will never return for when Dark Matter is fresh in our minds.

Jfc trag.

Just quietly, happy to see the turn of events in the polls though.

Okay, here is the plan (and one more question)

I'll push back the track number tournament structure for next year and build off Coppertom's idea

8 bracket tournament, with a winner's bracket tournament

Bracket 1: Ten and Vs
Bracket 2: Vitalogy and No Code
Bracket 3: Yield and Binaural
Bracket 4: Riot Act and S/T
Bracket 5: Backspacer, Lightning Bolt, and Gigaton
Bracket 6: Non-album tracks
Bracket 7: Dark Matter (delayed until launch of record)
Bracket 8: Past winner(s)

So my question is would people rather just see DTE advance to the final 8 as last year's winner, or run a bracket featuring the last 8 winners. This would take those songs out of their album brackets and possibly mix things up a bit.

The last 8 winners are (waiting on Abnorman to confirm):

Release
Go
Last Exit
Tremor Christ
Corduroy
Hail Hail
Do the Evolution
Insignificance

Taking those last 8 winners out in a single bracket is savage. Maybe do a weird thing where those 8 songs get the last 4 (?) into the finals.

Because that would be easy, right? Not like you put tonnes of thought into this or anything...

its an 8 song final with this model so I cant hold 4 slots

for the last several years the previous winners have all advanced to the final 8 or 16. I am leaning towards a winners tournament for some new blood, even if the winner of that bracket is likely to take the whole thing

Bracket 8 much bloodshed shall ensue
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

I hear you and think this would be fun. Nice to see some different tunes progress to the pointy end too.

I like it.

This should make each album more competitive as well.
