I bumped from 4 down to 3. I'm done listening to it for now until the new album comes out. I love most of the parts of this, but I just can't place my finger on what is missing for me. It is a flow thing.

Nobody has helped me obtain the instrumental version yetspike wrote:How’s your version coming along?Jorge wrote:Man, "anthemic" is not a word I would use for this at all. It's kind of unmelodic, and it's choppy. Like I said earlier, it's kind of hard to sing along to (which is NOT a bad thing, just something that I think disqualifies it from being "anthemic"). Re: Dark Matter (song)
I downgraded from a 5 to 4. My initial 5 was due to the excitement of hearing it for the first time and enjoying the shit out of it. The 5 was also due to the bias of being so pleasantly surprised that 2024 Pearl Jam can still do this. But settled in a more reasonable 4 after dozens of listens as expected. If 5 is reserved for the best of the best (black, I got id, long road, corduroy, in hiding, faithful, in my tree, …) then this is definitely not a 5.
That chorus though… it still has me belting it out very time. And I love that simple but powerful chord progression.

Same here, I love that chorus. It really does channel a classic PJ feeling like something from Ten or Vs. It's gonna be great live.
The overall song is definitely a 4 for me. It's simple and straight forward, but it's got great energy.

WWS was excellent live in 2006, I like it toostip wrote:Not sung, but it's got a chanting/rally cadence that invites people in. I love World Wide Suicide. Once upon a time it was a top ten song for (probably not anymore). But WWS is an example of the chorus not really having a clean melody. The lyrics struggle to exist in time with the music. It gets by on its energy, especially juxtaposted against Riot Act, which it was in response toJorge wrote:Man, "anthemic" is not a word I would use for this at all. We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

While this song may not be textbook anthemic, it has a great groove. Didn’t think MC had it in him.

"Combing through the wreckage

Should be "poring" though...?
