I spent a little time over at the official site, and I always come back inspired to merge and lock threads.

Ukraine solidarity notwithstanding, that is a tremendously ugly gradient

Keep us on track, Mr. Stip.
I consider it my most successful thread to date.

I find this tweet to be a bit misleading.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Sonically, “Dark Matter” slots in somewhere between the more tightly wound Pearl Jam of Vs. and the sleek, angry rockers found on later albums such as Binaural. Vedder’s trademark turn-of-phrase is evident during the zig-zagging bridge, where he commands, “No tolerance for intolerance or / no patience left for impatience no more / no love lost for lost loves / no sorrow for the unaccountable.”

Watt encouraged Pearl Jam to write and shape the material with all five members in the same room, and that spontaneous approach is immediately evident on Dark Matter. The album opens with the driving, major-key rocker “Scared of Fear,” with Vedder reminiscing to a subject only he knows, “We used to laugh, we used to sing, we used to crash, we used to believe.” And while arena-ready songs such as “React, Respond” and “Running” find Pearl Jam at their heaviest on an album in some time and “Waiting for Stevie” has an almost Singles-era classic Pearl Jam feel, Dark Matter also dials down the bombast with nods to the chiming, acoustic-flavored sound of the late Tom Petty on “Wreckage” and “Got To Give.” There’s even a song about parenting, “Something Special,” which Vedder said at the Troubadour was co-written with touring member Josh Klinghoffer.

The guy from the listening party on the podcast with Stip broke it down

5 harder songs
4 mid tempo
2 ballads

I kind of sounded like the album closer Setting sun isn’t a ballad.

And that Dark matter is far from the hardest song on the record.

Running and React/Respond are harder.

Depending on how you classify certain songs, one could say Ten is:

3 harder songs
5 mid tempo
3 ballads

I'm not sure any Pearl Jam album has that high a ratio of "harder songs." Honestly, I'm wondering if this album is gonna attack my ears now.

Alt nation
Ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer has joined Pearl Jam to record new material.

Josh is said to have co-written a song on the new Pearl Jam album “Dark Matter,” which is set to release in April.

According to Eddie Vedder, Klinghoffer, who has been a touring member of Pearl Jam and Vedder’s band The Earthlings since 2020, contributed to the song “Something Special,” which he claims is about parenting.

I absolutely find it sad when a band that was so influential for me seems to have abandoned the most important aspects of what drew me to them in the first place.
pearl jam’s song writing attribution standards were the cornerstone of my fandom, too
