you’ve got two ideas in that sentence. Most everything we know about the recording process for this record speaks to a much more organically cohesive creative process than we have seen in a long time - 5 guys writing in a room together. Getting feedback from a producer hardly feels like creative bankruptcy. I have loved the few times in my life I’ve gotten feedback from editors, and even the writing i do for work I constantly solicit feedback on. It has never felt any less authentically mine for it - but it does (hopefully) crystalize and distiltragabigzanda wrote:tragabigzanda wrote:I miss when my favorite band felt like an organically cohesive creative unit with egalitarian business principles.

Sure, who doesn't? But it's not like we haven't already had 20 years to adjust to this new reality. 20 years to beat this dead horse to a bloody pulp.tragabigzanda wrote:tragabigzanda wrote:I miss when my favorite band felt like an organically cohesive creative unit with egalitarian business principles.

Stip, I don't often read all the way to the end of a lot of your posts, partially because I'm not one too into big in depth dissections of song lyrics, partly because I only have so much time in a day, but it's posts like these that make me appreciate what a treasure you are around here. Well damn said.stip wrote:you’ve got two ideas in that sentence. I'd say he has a sizable lead for RMer of the Year.
And we've got 10 more songs for him to interpret and reflect upon.

the ear hears what it hears. Your experience of the song is real and true to you. But it’s a pretty big leap from ‘I don’t like how this sounds’ to ‘this process and the people who participated have no integrity because I don’t like it’tragabigzanda wrote:But there’s nothing organic about how it sounds. Thanks for keeping us on task, Harmless!
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Re: Dark Matter (song)
not that you need or are asking for my validation, but sound quality issues are legit. Even if it doesn’t bother me or if I fail to notice I get that. there are absolutely pearl jam songs where lyrics get in the way of my enjoyment, or the register/tone of Eddie’s voice - and others don’t notice, don’t care, or even like. But Ive never turned it into an integrity issue, and I fail to see how their use of a superfan producer comes remotely close to becoming onetragabigzanda wrote:I wouldn’t say NO integrity, just noticeably diminishing.stip wrote:the ear hears what it hears. Integrity matters. Sound quality matters.
It’s fine guys. I’m glad to keep listening to their earlier stuff.
