Moonlander - Stone Gossard

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

It wouldn't have to be Ed but I'd like these songs a lot more with a better singer.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

Stone is a better singer than Ed right now.

I must admit that I may be starting to come around to Stone's voice. I still don't like it, but it does kinda "fit" the music.

His singing has improved but I can't listen to him without seeing his sleezy sex face.
Haunting.

So, "I Need Something Different" is like reading Stone's diary, yeah? It's also the hardest, "punkiest" song on the record. Telling? (Yeah, I listened to the album backwards via the individual tracks on pearljam.com.)

Who knows? These songs accumulated over 10+ years. Some were more recently created than others.

Yeah, we don't know. And if this song had been on Bayleaf, it might've been easier to interpret it positively. Like, "I need something different, yeah yeah yeah yeah! Fight to get it solo again."

There's a Yield vibe to some of it. It's good evidence for the theory that PJ are using their best songs for other projects. Makes it even more frustrating that Stone would allow LTRP on the record.
I disagree. I think in most cases, not sure about Moonlander, they tried these solo songs in the band and they didnt work out, like bayleaf or the forest. I do believe Stone´s writing has been more inclined towards folk music and i dont know why he hasnt brought that aspect into the band these last couple of albums.

RNDM is another case, its a real band and im guessing most of the compositions are work from Joseph Arthur. Its like Brad for example.

I wish I believed that "Pearl Jam" as a band didn't like these songs. Someone is voting out all of the nuanced, subtle, ironic, non-"hit-grabbing" material. Whether you believe it's Ed, Brendan, or both, doesn't matter... but it's not PJ playing these songs and then deciding "meh". Who is PJ now?

I'd have to listen to the album one or two more times. I enjoyed every song.

Not true. King of the Junkies is the worst song.
