I absolutely love that song. It always felt like a good next step after Riot Act... it had this organic, gritty sound to it. I too break it out regularly.

Lost Dogs II

It and Let it Ride definitely make me curious about an iteration of Lost Dogs for S/T through LB. Were there any officially released b-sides that came out connected to these albums? I know there was Ole, but I thought they got that together independent of the studio sessions for these records, and Of The Earth, which was live-only. It makes me wonder if there's a vault filled with better decisions the band could have made in terms of tracking their records from the past two decades.

I know there was Ole, but I thought they got that together independent of the studio sessions for these records, and Of The Earth, which was live-only. It makes me wonder if there's a vault filled with better decisions the band could have made in terms of tracking their records from the past two decades.

I think the only officially released non-album originals since the first Lost Dogs came out are: "Man of the Hour," "Ole," "Get It Back," and a handful of lesser things on holiday singles ("Santa God," "Turning Mist," etc.). Oh, and "Can't Deny Me."

Unofficially I think there have been a handful of things from the S/T sessions, mostly unfinished stuff, though "Cold Confession" and "Let It Ride" are both great, as is the Stone song "100 Billion Years."

In the absence of an abundance of surprises, it would be a pretty underwhelming compilation.

Have you heard the Ridleybradout (maybe JWB too? not sure if he worked on this one or not) expanded "Stray Cats" compilation? It's a pretty good summary of stuff like that, and also includes tracks from 1991-2003 not included on the first comp. Recommended.

Yeah, it's interesting to me how few of these are outtakes from actual albums, akin to something like "Fatal" or "Other Side," where they were songs recorded and considered during the making of an album, and the band ultimately opted against including them. I guess "Get it Back" is the only one of those songs matching those, along with that unofficial S/T bounty of songs.

It makes me wonder if they're just writing and recording fewer songs than they used to, or are there a number of Cold Confessions left over from the Backspacer or LB sessions we've never heard?

they are all so individually prolific that my guess/hope is that they are sitting on them for possible future release -

I feel like that is coming sooner rather than later, yeah? They'll go on tour for the next two years, realize they are older and tired, see all of the fans bitching about ticket prices, etc., and just throw together a compilation of songs that are (mostly) finished. I don't mean this in a negative way, but they've surely got enough sitting around/already "released" songs for a pretty easy money grab.
