Re: The Mynabirds
Guys, I forgot to tell you. I asked when we could expect the third album to be released and she said "next year, maybe June-ish".

Pete, that version of "Mightier Than the Sword" did indeed destroy me. I wonder whether it was played slightly faster because she also found it emotional to get through. The pace relaxes a little in the final section, "When you forget the words...".

Re: The Mynabirds
Yeah, they're all good songs. The melody of "Leather Boots" reminds me of an old hymn -- maybe not any in particular, but it's got that old timelessness to it. It's also very like "Fallen Doves" in places, but that's OK. "Omaha" had a lot to live up to, because of the Counting Crows song, but it's beautiful. Generally they're pretty simple, even unsurprising, but she writes lyrics well enough to pull off that simplicity. "The Hanged Man" and "Omaha" are great, and I reckon "Leather Boots" will be up there when it's arranged on the album.

They're FLACs.
Laura Burhenn
Live at the Mansion at Strathmore

Laura Burhenn, with a Steinway grand piano in a tiny room, big enough for maybe 75-100 people.
Recorded on my Android phone with Tape Machine -> 16 bit 44.1khz WAV -> Adobe Audition 3.0 (level correction) -> FLAC Level 8
Most between song banter is at the end of the tracks. Twice I gave them their own tracks because she talked longer.
01 - What We Gained In The Fire
02 - The Hanged Man*
03 - Leather Boots*
04 - Just For The Night
05 - Let The Record Go
06 - We Made A Mountain (First Attempt)
07 - We Made A Mountain
08 - Chelsea Hotel No. 2
09 - Generals Story
10 - Generals
11 - Cake Parage
12 - Buffalo Flower
13 - Omaha*
14 - Right Place
15 - Encore Banter
16 - Mightier Than The Sword
17 - Numbers Don't Lie
*New songs. If they were't debuted at this performance then they were debuted on September 19th in Omaha
(don't have the setlist to that show) and these were then at least the 2nd time played

I really like Leather Boots. Omaha is the clear loser of the bunch (if you can call any of them losers). Omaha actually sounds A LOT like a song Bright Eyes would write.harmless wrote:Yeah, they're all good songs. Re: The Mynabirds
I really like the new songs--there's a strong sense of time and place to the recording, so it's difficult to imagine them (except maybe "Leather Boots") outside of this setting, but they're all wonderful songs fit to occupy space in her catalog. I'm sure the band will come up with something great for them.
Man, "Omaha" is a stunner.

Re: The Mynabirds
Not at all--that's actually kind of what I was referring to when I said there was a strong sense of time and place to the recording. It's tough to imagine a studio recording giving these songs any more presence than this. What you captured is all they need. She should "Nebraska" this shit.
