We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

If you consider an album from 1963 new, then, yes.. certainly!Ms Harmless wrote:

To a Time Lord who has lived a thousand years, it would be pretty recent.
It was relatively new to me, anyway ::shrug::

They had this air of tragedy and pathos in their prime, leaving you with an unsettling feeling inside.
Oh well, I guess it’s unrealistic to expect a similar level of emotional investment from them at this age. Still I wonder if Dark Matter will try to reach those depths of only just a bit. One can dream, eh

I model all my posts after John Coltrane’s solo in “Chasin’ the Trane” from the Village Vanguard — meandering aimlessly in search of points that they never really get around to making, taking about 14-15 minutes to read, only enjoyable by 1 in maybe 150 people. Yet forever hopeful that somewhere in that mess is a window into the soul, where truths of the universe reside in the spaces between the silences, or perhaps in the silences between the spaces, accessible to those — if only to those — who seek with an open heart.oneway23 wrote:A genuinely beautiful album...The My Funny Valentine cover alone is worth owning it.Ms Harmless wrote:it looks good anyway!oneway23 wrote:If you consider an album from 1963 new, then, yes.. certainly!Ms Harmless wrote:

Bill Evans has so many good records. I’ve got a soft spot that I can’t quite explain for the one he made with Monica Zetterlund, even though it’s not remotely one of his best.

This one right here:

*for some reason the last parenthesis at the end of this link isn't copying properly for me, so you may have to add it back.

One of the most heartbreaking, stop-dead-in-my-tracks-every-time records I've ever owned. The losses behind the album really comes out in the music, made all the sadder by the fact that Evans's own demise was just a few years away. So, not a light listen, but a deep and rewarding one. A top five jazz album for me.

Can't wait to hear his take on Freddie Freeloader, as Wynton Kelly played on the take released on KoB

The liner notes to the edition of this album I have speculate on this very thing! A "probably wanted to put his stamp on the tune" type thing..oneway23 wrote:Wonderful. I have some fantastic listening ahead of me tonight. Thank you both for the recommendations.

His take on the "MASH" theme is really something, coming at the end of such a record. Can't wait to hear what you think.
