Inside job?
yeah, they have late-career examples, but I wouldn't describe Inside Job as heavy or intense
I feel like Gigaton is full of the kind of textures you're talking about, and it's one of the reasons I love it.

I agree. I miss the longer songs that build to something. I guess there have been a few recently? But it does seem to be less prevalent
yeah, Gigaton had some, but Dark Matter would be much stronger with extended bookends

I'm all for bringing back the heavy, but I want some inviting intros pls
Ms Harmless is posting very well this evening.

Ms H is referencing the Stone songs on Ten.

Stone’s the problem.

We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

I'm listening to the BoB mix of Avocado (which I prefer to the original, overall),and I wish the intro to severed hand sounded as heavy as Dark Matter.

I believe this can be purchased from Qobuz, as well as other high-resolution audio sites like HDTracks and ProStudioMasters.
It can be identified by the (2017 mix) distinction

I have! It's pretty good.

I think Apple calls it "Spatial Audio" so Trag doesn't get on their ass for it technically not being the full Dolby Atmos experience.

No, that's just Apple branding at work. Makes people think they've invented things first if they simply alter the wording. That's their designation for Dolby Atmos no matter how or where you listen.

Yeah, that's what I was attempting to say.

"It the Dolby Atmos mix, but you're probably listening to it on your AirPods or laptop speakers, so we'll call it Spatial Audio"

Which still sounds pretty cool, IMO
