Helpful, yet disingenuous.
Ultimately, thanks… I guess.

Yeah. My first thought went to leaks. That’s been the issue for us.

The elderly owners are convinced it’s the immigrants that have been renting out one of the units.
Narrator: They aren’t immigrants.

boy aren't you going to have egg on your face when it's something else.tragabigzanda wrote:A sudden doubling in water usage in a condo building could be attributed to several factors, ranging from leaks and plumbing issues to changes in occupancy or behavior. Here are some possible causes to investigate:
1. Leaks: The most common cause of a sudden increase in water usage is leaks. This could be anything from a dripping faucet to a running toilet, or even a hidden leak within the walls or underground. Check for wet spots, mold, or musty odors as indicators.
2. Malfunctioning Plumbing Fixtures: A toilet that runs constantly or a malfunctioning irrigation system can significantly increase water usage.
3. Changes in Occupancy or Use: New residents moving in or temporary guests could lead to an increase in water use. Additionally, if parts of the building were previously unoccupied and are now in use, this could account for the change.
4. Seasonal Changes: Depending on the time of year, the demand for water can increase, especially if your building has landscaping that requires irrigation or if residents fill swimming pools in the warmer months.
5. Communal Facilities: If your condo has communal facilities such as a swimming pool, gym, or garden that require water, any increase in their use or a leak in these systems could affect overall water consumption.
6. Water Heater Issues: A leaking water heater can waste a significant amount of water, often unnoticed.
7. Changes in Water Pressure: Sometimes, the municipal water supply might increase water pressure, leading to more water being used or exacerbating leaks.
To pinpoint the exact cause, you might want to:
• Conduct a thorough inspection of the building for leaks.
• Review if there have been any recent changes in the building’s occupancy or usage of communal areas.
• Check with your local water utility for insights or reports of increased pressure or issues in the area.
• Consider hiring a professional plumber or a leak detection service to inspect the plumbing system, especially if you suspect hidden leaks.

I’m just hoping it’s back to normal the next billing cycle so no action needs to be taken. Our 80 year old treasurer likes to bring it up and speculate, but won’t actually do anything about it, meaning I’ll have to. Scheduling inspections of eleven other units doesn’t sound like fun.

I don’t want anyone to get the impression I’m in a position of power or interested in getting anything accomplished.
