There’s plenty of shitty, racist politics here, and I don’t mean from the far right conservatives either. It’s often from liberal democrats who are selectively (and mildly) progressive on some issues and are not willing to risk anything to make real change.

Been reading this board for years. I've almost never posted. At 43 years old, all I really care about is whether or not I like the new album. Although I don't know them personally, I trust that the band will never completely abandon their authenticity, in terms of what they stand for, the politics and all that. At the same time, I'm not hung up on the punk rock mentality the way I used to be. In other words, at this point, I couldn't care less if Ed is a Taylor Swift fan or not (for example) - whereas, my 25 year old self would probably lose sleep over it. His daughters are probably Swift fans and he's just being a good, supportive dad. What's more punk rock than that? I can't wait for the new album. If my ears are happy, I am happy.

a lot of people quoting "I have a dream" without the uncomfortable bit about "the white moderate" being the greatest barrier to equal rights

disliking Swift isn't punk rock, the redistribution of wealth is punk rock

As a 45-year old dad, this perfectly sums up how I feel. For me, it'd feel a lot more disingenuous if EV was pretending to be angsty and brooding at this point. Write what you know, right?EBowie wrote:Been reading this board for years. I've almost never posted. At 43 years old, all I really care about is whether or not I like the new album. I actually don't like that lyric on paper, but since multiple reviews have highlighted it I assume it works great in the moment.Evvo wrote:“We used to dance, we had our own scene” sounds like a Hold Steady lyrics. And that’s no bad thing.
