not enterprising, but of note: Snippets were brought in, but no full tracks - 8 or 9 of the songs were almost fully written within 1-2 hours - Ed wrote all of the lyrics on the spot.

I think you're being a little literal. "Middle age" is commonly understood as the period between 45 and 65, when old age begins. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_age

I was just beginning my mid-life crisis when Gigaton came out (age 42 then), and now almost a year beyond it for this new album. So, I’m not really sure what that means but here I am, ready for this new one.

yeah that's frustrating for sure. doesn't happen to me as much anymore, as i'm sleeping better these days, but was an issue a couple years ago.
