Slightly ot, but, then again, Jack Irons is never off-topic...LOVE that snare sound on the Jack recordsEBowie wrote:Riot Act is the warmest, most analog-y sounding record they've made. I love the Jack records too but a lot of the production has to do with the fact that Jack used Ludwig supraphonic (aluminum) snares. Matt prefers darker sounding snare drums (copper etc). The snare drum alone can change the whole sound.

We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Running is the best clip from the album so far. That one has me hyped.

I’m much more concerned about the WAY they play their instruments (effects choices, tuning, cadence, intonation, etc). They’ve made a lot of wrong choices in the past (to my ears), and there is no greater example than grievance (album version). Production and mixing is not unimportant, but to me the biggest difference so far is that I’m really liking the way these tracks sound at the ground level. Sure, I could make some improvements to fit my personal taste but by and large, they are doing these songs justice. Of course, a lot left to be revealed.EBowie wrote:Agreed. I agree that the Atmos version is how this album is going to be truly meant to be heard. Josh Evans is supposed to be part of that. Dark Matter is a different animal in Atmos vs the standard version. The production sounds so much better.unLEASHed wrote:Could there be any aspects of the production being made for dolby atmos that make it sound different on other forms? That said, we have Dark Matter as a reference and much of what the rockers/heaviers are gonna sound is probably there, as Watt makes very uniform records (sound-wise).Jorge wrote:Hard to tell much about the production from that very low quality clip
Or maybe that's just what it sounds like, lol
I'm very happy, the band sounds excited, the songs/snippets sound just as authentic as Gigaton/Avocado did and nothing sounds as bad as Avocado/BS/LB (I'd even include the lackluster sound of Riot Act, but that's another can of worms and not decided if it's production or songwriting)
Can anybody give a light on this?

I'm curious about Atmos but I'm a complete noob to it. What is the most basic setup that one would need at home in order to experience Atmos?mvw wrote:I agree that the Atmos version is how this album is going to be truly meant to be heard. The first time I listened to the Atmos version i noticed the echo in Eds voice coming off “Matter” in the verses, subtle things that make the song alot different. Guitar effects are also more upfront, particularly in the outro.mvw wrote:I agree that the Atmos version is how this album is going to be truly meant to be heard. Holy crap, a lot must have happened today (while I was trying to work!) Is it just the new clip of Running that I missed? Or was something else teased too?
