Alien: Romulus

Post by Ensign9 »

No thread on this already or is it buried in a 789-page thread covering every movie ever created?

Anyway, here's the first teaser. I hope this isn't a Fede Alvarez-style gore fest.

The focus is on action over story. And we've seen this action before. Doesn't intrigue me. It's as if the trailer for Jurassic Park was just a snippet of the T-Rex trying to get to the kids in the car. That would be dumb because there's actually good story. This must not have much story to it. But it is just a teaser so who knows

Moved from the general motion picture news thread:

I think Aliens movies really live or die by the quality of the human characters. You’ve either got a memorable group, portrayed by memorable people…or you’ve got nothing to offer.

And this might also be the franchise I think CGI is most ruinous to. Xenomorphs have to look disgusting and wet and really, really, really there. They also need to maintain a certain amount of physical mystery…which happens to pair well with the production-side need to hide the fact that you’re working with a puppet or costume, but not at all well with the “every shot looks so cool” mentality of cgi.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Isn’t the story the same in all the Alien movies? Except maybe AvP.

I'd prefer something like Prometheus but better. I just generally don't like Ridley Scott or his aesthetics. I just want something new.

"I just generally don't like Ridley Scott or his aesthetics" might be one of the worst things anyone has ever said. A true heir to LV's idiotic hot take throne has been found.

all I'm saying is I don't prefer his style. I didn't say he's objectively bad.

And slowly, inexorably, terrifyingly… tree has become the loathed vermin of our time. No cow too sacred nor no brow so low as not to be drawn and quartered by the rapier blade. All hail the ersatz haderach.
