Probably a dozen. Got a lot when I was younger, but haven't gotten one in years, except the time I got 3 on a cross country trip a few years ago.doug rr wrote:issued during your life thru todayBurtReynolds wrote:Like active?doug rr wrote:how many speeding tickets do you have?

Yeah, it cost me $900 and I missed the first 8 songs of my first Pearl Jam concert. Luckily I showed up right before Sleight of Hand started.
It was definitely a wake up call. I haven't received a speeding ticket since.

Re: Ask RM a Question
I think I’ve gotten 3 in my life.
When I got my first one, I was still in high school. I got the ticket, paid it, everything done. So I thought. Mema Wease worked as a legal secretary at the time and one day shortly after my ticket was paid, she was at the courthouse and someone that worked there mentioned that I had come in and paid my ticket. Mema Wease said it wasn’t me, I hadn’t told her anything about getting a ticket. They assured her it was me and as soon as she got back to the office, she called me yelling and screaming how I made a liar out of her and embarrassed her. I just thought I was doing the right thing by being responsible and paying my ticket. It never dawned on me to tell my parents about it.

I got one on an interstate when I was in college. Been an obsessive speed limit respecter ever since.

Re: Ask RM a Question
When I worked in the far remote country back in the mid 90s I used to have to do a run between towns 300kms apart. It was a day trip that involved 6 hours driving and 4 hours on the ground. I remember driving the government falcon and absolutely flying - I was doing 140km/h plus in a 110km/h zone. The road is rising slowly ahead of me and the unmistakable silhouette of a cop car appears at the top of the hill driving straight at me. I knew I was busted straight away and sure enough the cops hit their brakes, turned around and pulled me over on the side of the lonely, empty highway.
I actually recognized the cop who was driving as a girl I was a passing acquaintance with, but didn't socialise with at all. Her partner was a young kid who looked like it was his first day on the job. She recognised me and said "Hi Higgs. Do you know what speed you were doing there?". I smiled and nodded and said "I think I was doing about 140 or so" accepting that I was screwed. She laughed and said "142 to be exact. Now, hold out your hand" which I thought was strange, but I did as she instructed. She slapped me on my hand and said "Don't do it again" and turned to go hop back in the car. I can still remember the look of absolute shock and confusion on the young cops face as he thought he was getting the bust of the day.
They drove off their way and I drove off mine, smiling at the happy turn of fate I'd received.
