I think the bridge might bring it to a 3.5 for me.

I really like the spaces left in the melody where "got me running" and whatever else appears in bars 3 and 4 of the verse, it isn't just a relentless 8th note thing and I respect that; word salad but with gaps to chew

i cant hear a single CYmbal or Crash ring out :(
No decay or reverb tails at all on both songs so far...air-tight production, sounds like maybe no ambient mics so far? Is that off-base?
I'm sure they used room mics when tracking, but none of it's there in the mix
Fucking producer makes one of the greatest drummers of his generation sound like a plug-in. Does this mean I hate Pearl Jam?

If Watt ruined Chad and Matt's drum sound, as some are saying, Chad and Matt are just as much to blame as Watt. They've been pro drummers for multiple decades. They don't have to sign off on something if they don't want to.

Unless your boss is Eddie Vedder and he says "you have to sign on something if you don't want to."
Fine. But either way, it's not all on Watt.

oh absolutely, I don't "blame" anyone, they're not the first drummers to be OK with this type of treatment and they won't be the last

I really, really don't think Ed is proverbially tying the band up in a basement like you seem to think; they're all happy

I really like this song...not sure why as the short spritzy punk songs by them are usually not my cup of tea. But this one works and I love the whole groove it has throughout. My wife who hates PJ also really liked it so now I'm gonna have to reconsider.

I'd put it at 3.5 if I could, I just prefer a mid-tempo funk groove like Dark Matter, so that's a 4

I would definitely tie Stone up in the basement, if:
A. My wife would let me
B. I actually had a basement, in which I could then tie up members of my favorite bands

We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…
