Re: Running
Yeah, Take The Long Way is maybe low-to-middle of Gigaton for me personally, but still great, and probably the most improved track on the record for me. It clears the two new songs pretty handily.

I don't know, you have to search through the four different threads about it.tragabigzanda wrote:What are they saying on the Porch about this one?

Re: Running
I agree with this...TTLW and ND are okay songs but they are generic album filler songs to me. I like Running more than most on here it seems and definitely more than those two songs.Thejambi wrote:TTLW is a good song that I never have the urge to ever listen to. Flat was a good description. It just kind of meanders with nothing I really want to hold on to.

Cap. But sure, fine. It's a Matt song through and through. If you didn't dig Wellwater Conspiracy, I can see how you might not dig TTLW. But at least the riff is weird and off-kilter and different. The song is also a bit starker than a lot of their recent material. A distant cousin to in the moonlight.Val wrote:Guys, I honestly tried giving TTLW multiple chances after seeing a lot of praise being sung to it.
But my initial reaction stands: it’s a pretentious piece of mediocrity straining to be original and special.
It’s not.
Parts of it are ridiculous even.

that's fair in terms of the formula. But this (again, with one listen a few hours ago) didn't feel like a bog standard version of it.tragabigzanda wrote:If this were their first pop-punk number, I'd agree. But as it stands, it's become their go-to formula. "We needed one more uptempo number," or whatever was said about this track. All the evidence of creative laziness is plain as day, so the vitriol is warranted.stip wrote:this also is one of those cases where the ambition of the song vs the vitriol leveled against it in places seems slightly out of alignment. As opposed to Dark Matter, which is a song that does seem to want to plant a flag.

they did. I just don't know WHY they chose a song like this. Or SBWM, which needed so much time to rise to greatness.digster wrote:It's the second single off their new album, I think they clearly want people to talk about it.stip wrote:this also is one of those cases where the ambition of the song vs the vitriol leveled against it in places seems slightly out of alignment. Yeah, yeah, exactly — the riff being off kilter and weird is the con here.RAG319 wrote:Cap. But sure, fine. It's a Matt song through and through. It’s not.

It’s there to distract you from an absence of a standout melody.

TTLW is a turd.
I have no problems currently. Actually, my left elbow hurts sometimes and makes a strange clicking sound, now that you’ve asked

Re: Running
Will give it a few more listens this evening, but on first listen that is so disappointing. Completely bland and forgettable. Like a lot of PJ songs, I’m sure it’ll grow on me but I would skip that track within the first 30 seconds if it didn’t have PJ’s name attached to it.

It's another very typical Matt-Cam rocker, cut from the same cloth (if maybe not the same piece) as Evacuation, Get Right, etc.
