Yeah, Take The Long Way is maybe low-to-middle of Gigaton for me personally, but still great, and probably the most improved track on the record for me. It clears the two new songs pretty handily.

I don't know, you have to search through the four different threads about it.

I agree with this...TTLW and ND are okay songs but they are generic album filler songs to me. I like Running more than most on here it seems and definitely more than those two songs.

But my initial reaction stands: it’s a pretentious piece of mediocrity straining to be original and special.

It’s not.

Parts of it are ridiculous even.
Cap. But sure, fine. It's a Matt song through and through. If you didn't dig Wellwater Conspiracy, I can see how you might not dig TTLW. But at least the riff is weird and off-kilter and different. The song is also a bit starker than a lot of their recent material. A distant cousin to in the moonlight.

If this were their first pop-punk number, I'd agree. But as it stands, it's become their go-to formula. "We needed one more uptempo number," or whatever was said about this track. All the evidence of creative laziness is plain as day, so the vitriol is warranted.
that's fair in terms of the formula. But this (again, with one listen a few hours ago) didn't feel like a bog standard version of it.

It's the second single off their new album, I think they clearly want people to talk about it.
they did. I just don't know WHY they chose a song like this. Or SBWM, which needed so much time to rise to greatness.

Yeah, yeah, exactly — the riff being off kilter and weird is the con here.
It’s there to distract you from an absence of a standout melody.

Alone is a masterpiece.
TTLW is a turd.

I have no problems currently. Actually, my left elbow hurts sometimes and makes a strange clicking sound, now that you’ve asked

melody isn't primarily what I care about in a song

Pretentious is the last word I'd personally use for it.

Will give it a few more listens this evening, but on first listen that is so disappointing. Completely bland and forgettable. Like a lot of PJ songs, I’m sure it’ll grow on me but I would skip that track within the first 30 seconds if it didn’t have PJ’s name attached to it.

This is getting worse all the time.

It's another very typical Matt-Cam rocker, cut from the same cloth (if maybe not the same piece) as Evacuation, Get Right, etc.
