From someone at the Pit who attended the Listening Party today:

Maybe 200 people. I liked half the album. Wreckage. Fear  was great. Can't remember the fucking names now. It was so surreal im lost. I think wreckage sounded a bit like daughter i think

For someone there to say that is.....oof.

I just read that as "half of the album I still remember", not that the rest is bad

I don't see how one confuses liked with remember?

So that makes at least 3, including Wreckage, that he liked. I think the last couple and a few in the middle are songs that build, so probably takes a few listens to fully unwrap those.

Ed's quote about Taylor Swift concerts being comparable to punk rock has really bugged me the last few days, but I haven't formed very coherent thoughts about why.

I think it speaks to a kind of blinkered incuriosity that's common to people as they get older, where Ed's frame of reference for what's happening in the world is through the lens of what his kids are into, but it's particularly disappointing to see from an artist who should expect more from himself. I can't imagine Jeff saying anything that boneheaded.

The engaging of Watt on both Earthlings and this record seems kind of related to the same thing: a growing uncritical comfort with those chart-friendly pop sonics combined with a kind of disingenuous lack of acknowledgement that he's definitely chasing (or hoping for) greater commercial success through that approach.

he was talking about the camaraderie / community; he found the practise of passing around concert friendship bracelets to be similar to what he remembers with different bootlegged things, it wasn't this big artist's statement, it was just a dad being cute about his daughters' interests
