but in one of these environments it was such a stronger song. if this was what i heard first id have a totally different opinion. this was a dramatic difference

I think that is the goal of these productions. Crank it real fucking loud so it sounds great on shitty speakers in your car driving fast.

But given any intricate listening scenario, sounds like horseshit.

why would it sound great on shitty car speakers? because of ambient car noise filling in the gaps?

Humans gravitate towards loud things. its a fun experience in the car. It competes with songs on the radio.

Its very exciting to first hear these songs because they come at you so hard. we love that about PJ. I do, at least.

But then after a few listens, and some careful consideration, and listening on headphones, that is where my excitement starts to wind down a bit. Better equipment you can hear or not hear nuance.

I mean, maybe. The nuance I started to hear didn't make me like the song less per se. It's not like it felt like the car experience was papering over something as much as the headphone experience was failing to capture something else.

But I also 100% did not have this experience with Dark Matter.

maybe it'll be better quality on the actual release recording at midnight; I'm expecting the Amazon Music version to be more beefy than this YouTube thing

I just listened with headphones and the sonics aren't as bad as some are making them out to be. Avocado made my ears bleed with headphones and this is nothing like that. It's a fun song, I'm digging it enough. I doubt it'll be my favorite on the record but it's absolutely not garbage. 3 stars for me.

2nd single is a worry but then again their singles can often be the more underwhelming songs

it took me a few listens but i am fully locked in. starting to get a handle on the lyrics makes it feel less shouty. Agree with Ms Harmless’ got some/supersonic comparison

I get vestibular migraines and don’t usually listen to music this maxxed out anymore. I think I find that production or mastering too harsh to enjoy. I loved Gigaton too and hoped they would build on that songwriting but the dynamics here don’t sound well arranged or by a band locking into a groove. It sounds like a green day riff that way explained to the rest of the band and Ed giving his damndest to give it life.

This is how I feel as well except I don’t get migraines, I just don’t want to listen to music like this.

I like the vocal melody, I won’t mind hearing it live. I Won’t be listening to this studio version

They have a few songs like this, mostly Stone´s songs i guess...manking, Dont Gimme No Lip, Supersonic...all stone songs.

This seems to be a Jeff thing at least at first.
