I dont get why you chose to only see those business practices that are highly unethical for you and not see all the other great stuff they did and still do.

Seems you are just very angry with the band Trag.

Im feel sorry for you.

I'd be more forgiving of this absolutely shitty music they're turning out if the business practices behind it were highly ethical. But they're not. So absent any sort of ideological bent I can attach my heart too, all I'm left with is the music, and I mostly hate it.

This is midlife crisis music from a band with multiple vacation homes.
I feel similarly but that’s probably heightened by the fact that I have little emotional connection to the band: sure, I liked them, but they were never my favorite band, not even close.

If it weren’t for this board, I doubt I would’ve listened to any Pearl Jam record made in the last 20 years.

$500 headphones goes against punk rock values anyway.
right, so it could easily be argued that mixing a song for your phone is very punk rock

Yeah, I find Taylor Swift annoying. But wanna know what I find more annoying? Me allowing myself to care whether Ed likes/dislikes Taylor Swift :haha:

I'm trying not tgaf about that sort of thing, as a guy in his 40s, just grateful the band still exists...

its also midlife crisis fandom for the vast majority of us, even if we all manifest it differently
Yes but we're not the ones making shitty music then paying artists in their own merch while turning around and selling $1700 tickets.
i wish I had taken some notes from the Concertpants discission on the SOLAT podcast about the ticket pricing. it explained where those prices came from

what's the difference between multiple vacation homes and the multi-thousand dollar audiophile music and cinema room the vast majority of PJ fans have set up? I got laughed at for doing most of my listening on my phone, where's the good ethical values in that?

For the life of me i cannot imagine having close to 15000 posts in a forum about a band that is not even remotely close to being my favorite band.

Over at the pit, Some bloke (see what I did there) is showing goods from the London event but frankly giving one word answers.

“How was waiting for Stevie?”

“Good I think”

That’s helpful…..

This is REALLY interesting to me. I was posting just last night about my love of Ice Spice, and how great rap music is often the pure product of its environments...

I generally regard all music as one might the work of Alan Lomax or David Lewiston, who traveled the globe and chronicled indigenous music for the rest of the world to hear. Rarely do I make any attempt to separate the art from the artist; the music is a window into the world of the people making it.

I'm not sure that "punk" equals "cheap." But it DEFINITELY doesn't equal whatever it is Wotman's doing.
good we have Trag to DEFINITELY point us to the right direction i guess

1. I think the impact of Beth on Ed’s 90s stances, persona and art is widely under examined and appreciated; and

2. I don’t really care about Ed’s values, and never did too much, I just think his current approach seems destined to make bad (or pretty mediocre) art.

This supports my long standing theory that Beth wrote or cowrote much of the early material and that’s why there is such a sharp drop off in quality

that's because it doesn't sonically and aesthetically match what you associate punk to be

if I can afford to listen to PJ without having the massive bachelor pad my dad had when I was young, to me they're still speaking to my lifestyle, even if they sonically sound like pop now

Anyone on this board can surely appreciate that dedicated Pearl Jam fandom is hardly a prerequisite for continued membership.

I’m still here because of the other posters and the quality of the discussion, whether about the band, other bands or other topics entirely.

If being wildly miserable and unhappily "in love" makes for better art then, fuck that shit.

I mean, glad we got the stuff we did from him then but....

what are most hiphop and RnB music fans doing now? listening on their phones; not because they don't care about musical integrity or fidelity or what the fuck ever, but because they're not loaded
