I generally regard all music as one might the work of Alan Lomax or David Lewiston, who traveled the globe and chronicled indigenous music for the rest of the world to hear. Rarely do I make any attempt to separate the art from the artist; the music is a window into the world of the people making it.
I'm not sure that "punk" equals "cheap." But it DEFINITELY doesn't equal whatever it is Wotman's doing.

1. I think the impact of Beth on Ed’s 90s stances, persona and art is widely under examined and appreciated; and
2. I don’t really care about Ed’s values, and never did too much, I just think his current approach seems destined to make bad (or pretty mediocre) art.
If being wildly miserable and unhappily "in love" makes for better art then, fuck that shit.

what are most hiphop and RnB music fans doing now? listening on their phones; not because they don't care about musical integrity or fidelity or what the fuck ever, but because they're not loaded
I'll do you one better: They're recording with Frooty Loops and other cheap DAW equipment. A lot of it is really compelling.

I used to be like you. When people didn't like Pearl Jam or shit on them - i would get offended and tell them to leave the negativity.
But weee adults, we don't all have to hate and love the same things. RM is all about digging deeper into these conversations. That's why this place is still around and wonderful
