There's a lot of people here with a real axe to grind against Pearl Jam, and I find that weird.

Speaking for myself, I don’t have any axe to grind but also have no incentive to look at them through rose-tinted glasses.

When they make great music, I’m happy to give credit where it’s due; Dance of the Clairvoyants, for example.

There is no objectively great music. I'm shocked when people say they can't stand Pink Floyd but those people exist and their opinions are as valid as mine. So when people here act like there is some great crime being perpetrated by a once-great band, all they are telling me is that their taste doesn't jive with what's coming out now. And that's fine, but so many are getting high on their own supply of opinions, and trying to evangelize said opinions upon everyone else. I couldn't care less about you not digging Pearl Jam, but I am here to discuss Pearl Jam as a fan, and it's pretty lame to constantly have those discussions interrupted by people who are not fans anymore and also think everyone should see it like them. It's fucking rude. Understand spenno that I'm speaking generally here, not targeting you per se.

I used to be like you. When people didn't like Pearl Jam or shit on them - i would get offended and tell them to leave the negativity.

But weee adults, we don't all have to hate and love the same things. RM is all about digging deeper into these conversations. That's why this place is still around and wonderful

This is REALLY interesting to me. I was posting just last night about my love of Ice Spice, and how great rap music is often the pure product of its environments...

I generally regard all music as one might the work of Alan Lomax or David Lewiston, who traveled the globe and chronicled indigenous music for the rest of the world to hear. Rarely do I make any attempt to separate the art from the artist; the music is a window into the world of the people making it.

I'm not sure that "punk" equals "cheap." But it DEFINITELY doesn't equal whatever it is Wotman's doing.

Anyway im done with this talk, im really enjoying both of the songs actually. Pretty cool moment.

There are both opinions and facts.

Wotman and Ghanea's treatments include: aggressive use of compression, little-to-no room sound in the mix, there's either drum samples or weird multiband compression applied to the drums, and the overall EQ hypes the bottom and top end at the expense of the mid-range frequencies. These are all facts.

My opinion is that it sounds horrific, and that it's the outgrowth of a variety of factors, all of which have been identified multiple times by myself and others.

I shouldn't have to tell a guy who works in film production that technical choices are the result of the artists' intention.

well, technical choices have to do with a whole lot of things besided the artist´s intention Trag, specially in the film industry, which is so different from making music. I dont understand why you need to pointed out that.

Yes. I tolerate the knowledge that Anthony Kiedis is most likely a serial sexual predator because I enjoy his dumb, fun music. But that's what I signed up for with RHCP back in 1994, and I've never had any expectations otherwise.

I mean, a new song came out. The issues some of us didn't love in DM are kind of worse here so of course discussion is gonna happen. I like the song! People ask trag his optional and why he feels this or way or that.

I think the worst backlash i saw from a PJ album is still Binaural. Fans haaated that one...i mean they hated No Code too, but i didnt have internet to check it out back then.

But Binaural was the first album that i could see online what was happening with the fans and boy, they hated it so much.
