Evacuation is goofy as hell but I do like God's Dice. It's pretty cool live.

I hope the setlist on the tour is only going to be 1991-1994 and Dark Matter songs

Re: Running
The transition from Running into Dark Matter on itunes works really well. It's too bad the album doesn't work that way.
I really like all the stuff (Mike?) is doing underneath the main riff. I wish it was a little more prominent. You can hear it a bit better on Spotify then what we had yesterday. Not a huge difference.
Liking this more and more every time I hear it. The bridge sits better within the song, and Mike's solo feels more of a piece with the stuff he is playing under the riff throughout the song.
Cranking this on headphones at a moderate - loud volume. This is the hardest they've ever sounded in their 'playful' mode, right?
Good times were had by some.

I listened to Evacuation again. It actually hurts my ears. Utter fucking dreck that should never have made the album.DeeDee wrote:Wtf?lecherouslittlestump wrote:Evacuation and Gods Dice are bottom tier Pearl Jam songs. No melody. No tune. Weird for the sake of being weird. They have no right existing on an album as good as Binaural, especially considering the songs they left off.
Running is much better.
Let's be serious, please.
It's actually hilarious that God's Dice and Evacuation follow each other on the album. The absolute worst 1-2 punch in PJ's history.

I'd have to check, but I probably agree with this. Binaural really sputters to a start for me before entering a pretty strong middle section.lecherouslittlestump wrote:I listened to Evacuation again. Re: Running
Did they mix this song in a sock? I like the song, I just wish it sounded more crisp.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

The guy with the most insane Pearl Jam takes of all time agrees with Trag. That makes sense, actually.

Listened on Spotify this morning and this song is doing nothing for me. It’s really bad seeing nearly 60 year olds put out a ham-fisted punk song that a teenage garage band would think is average.

Re: Running
It's a grower. But it's supremely mid. Weird choice for second single but then I was moaning when I thought Something Special was #2 so clearly nothing pleases me.

Re: Running
It’s a very specific comparison about two specific things that sound or try to imitate specific things in RVM. Not that this song overall sounds like RVM or even holds a candle to RVM (it doesn’t).DeeDee wrote:Talking about RVM while describing this song could get you jail time.Fattie_Vedder wrote:9. Jeff’s sliding bass in the bridge, right after the guitars pause. It touches my soul in the right place (my butt).Fattie_Vedder wrote:Everyone get over yourselves. This song is really good and fun. Still a solid 3, maybe 3.5. I can see this being really fun in the car.
Stupid, baffling choice for a single. But still really fun. When I’m in the mood for this type of song, it will scratch that itch. Things I love about it:
1. Bass coming in hard in the left channel then the explosion in the right
2. The 2nd guitar accenting the first more loudly adds a really cool layer and gives the effect of the volume going up and down slightly. I enjoy the push and pull of that.
3. The relentless pace
4. The sudden halt of the bridge. That beautiful bridge. I want more of it.
5. The way Ed pronounces certain words. Some really good choices here.
6. The briefest pause after the bridge before kicking back into gear
7. Mikes ambulance siren like solo accentuates the back and forth and up and down volume effects in 2. All of it heightens the theme of the song of running frantically and going nowhere. Maybe running in circles.
8. The “fuck off” at the end
10. Mike hits a note in the solo at 2:03 precisely that is identical to the final highest note in the RVM solo. Theory: Watt told Mike “remember how you extended the string way up at the end of the RVM solo? Do that here”. That double time on the drums at the end also feels like RVM.

Re: Running
Stip was correct, Running sounds good followed by Dark Matter; say what you want about the production values, at least there's a consistency here
