Re: Running
say what you want about production, I'm really glad that Dark Matter and Running are consistent in style, arrangement and instrumentation; they sound like they might sit nicely on an album with common themes and ideas, and I like when sonic matches thematic consistency

I said "say what you want about production" as an asidetragabigzanda wrote:Honestly I don’t think you have. While I’ve granted that probably it would’ve been easier to ask what you were trying to say, I still have no idea what you were trying to say. Please help me understand why you view the consistency in production between these two songs to somehow be an improvement over that of BS and LBMs Harmless wrote:when somebody says "say what you want about..." Re: Running
This sounds better this morning, for some reason. I still don't love Ed's performance but I'll bump it up to a 3.

you need to understand that "sonics" and "sound quality" and even "sound consistency" are not all about mixing and mastering

I was listening to a random PJ list and Leatherman appeared.

Re: Running
I’ve prob heard pennybridge cover to cover 1000 or more times no joke. I LOvE that record.Jorge wrote:It's not really about the music style, about whether it's "heavy". You mentioned Millencolin. Listen to Pennybridge Pioneers. You can really hear the tone of the guitars, there's colors to it, everything sounds well balanced, nuances in playing really shine through even though the music is aggressive. You can turn the volume up and it sounds good, like you're walking closer towards the band instead of sticking your ear in the PA. With "Running" you turn the volume up and it just sounds like a bunch of white noise, abrasive and indistinctDDWJMUVW wrote:I’m beginning to think that some folks who have described these new songs as “too loud” or a “wall of mush” have a vastly different musical background than I. Of course while PJ was the first love, I spent a lot of time in the mid/late 90s and early 2000s listening to east coast punk bands (saves the day, H2O, mxpx, millencolin - Swedish - etc). You want heavy? Those bands are actually heavy. So to me the new DM songs are not offensive
But have to disagree. I can hear the guitars in these two songs MUCH more distinctly that I have with PJ I’m the past. In fact I’d argue that’s what separates these tracks from LB and Gig and indeed much of their catalogue post Vitalogy. I’ve wanted to hear loud, distorted guitars a la ten and vs for quite some time. And I don’t know what equipment you’re using to listen but I hear things very clearly with good instrument separation both though my AirPod pros 2 and my pair of Sonos five speakers. No amps, nothing else.
To each their own but I’m digging these tracks and hearing things I haven’t in years.
