yes, I'm giving it the ole CAR TEST. Grade: F+ 65/100.
For a graybeard such as yourself, Burt, I'd really expect you to like the softer side of Pearl Jam. I'm sure Dom DeLuise does.

Yeah, I think the first third of the title track is less engaging and interesting even than Let the Records Play. The always something but was alright though.

Yeah. They need to work on the first-thirds of their songs.

This is probably retarded, but I think the lyrics of more than one of these songs are about Eddie struggling with an urge to become religious even though it stands in opposition to his beliefs.

Nah I get that. I see it more as wanting to believe in something more than religion specifically.

Definitely a running theme. In the end, in FD, he sings "I believe...."
A belief in something more? Many afterlife references in this record.
I think Ed is acknowledging religion and that it is OK to believe, but just don't force it down people's throats.

I hadn't listened to this album for a few days. Put it on tonight. Still really like the first 7 tracks, SBM & FD.

That's basically the theme of the record. God/creator = good (or at least appealing in the face of mortality). Religious dogma = bad.
