Re: Russia
NBC: « More than 114 million Russians are eligible to vote in the election, including nearly 2 million abroad. For the first time, people in the four occupied regions of Ukraine annexed by Russia will also be included, in violation of international law in a move condemned by Kyiv and its Western allies.
Results are expected to start coming in late Sunday, with a landslide win for Putin expected to be announced on Monday.»

Re: Russia
Putin is fairly popular and a viable opposition might be even more hostile to the West.
Navalny was no fan of ethnic minorities in Russia, and I don't think he had much of a following outside of urban centers. It could always get worse.

Re: Russia
I disagree. Almost anyone would be better than Putin. He has killed the opposition, the free press, and has led several brutal wars, including in Ukraine, where hundreds of thousands have been killed, and thousands raped or abducted, in a crazy man’s war.
Also there are plenty of Russians that could get behind a strong free press, and a real opposition, if it was allowed.

Maybe within every Russian there's an American yearning to break free. Maybe not.Anders wrote:I disagree. Almost anyone would be better than Putin. Re: Russia
Maybe the US isn’t what to inspire to in politics, but nearly anything is better than Putin.

« A court in Russia sentenced a manager of a gay bar and an art director to two months of pretrial custody.
It marks the first instance of individuals being targeted for “extremist LGBT organization” after the Kremlin brought in anti-LGBTQ+ laws last year.
In November 2023, the country’s Supreme Court designated the “international LGBT social movement” an extremist organization and banned its activities inside Russia.»

Re: Russia
Looks like a classic Putin false flag. It has all the hallmarks.
He’ll blame Ukraine and reign fire on Kyiv tonight.
*US state dept and the Brits did issue a warning two weeks back saying there was going to be a terror attack in Moscow.

I also worry it will lead to more civilians dead in Ukraine, no matter who is behind this.
