No question its better than Can't Deny Me. CDM is a bottom 5 Pearl Jam song. While Running aint great and arguably isnt as good as anything on Gigaton, it is easily better than at least 2-3 songs on LB.
I agree with this. I have to admit, I didn’t mind CDM at first but I think it was because of the seven year gap between LB and Gigaton I was ready to hear anything PJ related. The only real issue I have with ‘Running’ is the “Lost in the tunnel” bit. Although, it has been a earworm for better or worse. Verses and bridge are best parts for sure and make the song tolerable. Dig the energy and will probably like it more in the context of the album.

I have always, for years, said that you take me as I am, as a human being, or you don't get my friendship; I am not about the ribbing, the joshing, the roasting, and the "loving" bullying; I've never had a shtick except for fake cis guy

I think a member of this site (any member, not just me) should be able to say "have at it, with anyone else, and I'll celebrate your mutual enjoyment of it; but that behaviour depends on mutual consent, or *it is bullying*, and I don't consent"; everyone I know who knows and loves me (and I am polyamorous, so that's four people in a romantic basis and even more on a friendship one) respects that about me

I will snap when I feel cornered and bullied, it is what it is, but I've never been anything but honest

intention isn't irrelevant when it comes to how we treat others, but it isn't everything either; I will not admit to an innate flaw in my character just because my feelings are hurt; someone did that, whether they meant to or not
I didn't say "flaw"...

I agree that trag has represented himself poorly and that if he had better intentions, he'd show more respect for the boundaries you have illustrated very clearly.

I'm only offering a little more: that you find it in your heart to at least understand where people like him might be coming from, to help give a little more benefit of the doubt. Not for his sake, but for yours.
lol I'll be fine
tree, are you gonna give Trag a pep talk too?

I also made my RM name prior to hearing ‘Of the Earth’ when they released potential song titles on the upcoming record. I thought maybe it would become a good song down the road, alas.

I side with the victim. Trag knows what he did wrong. I don't know what's gotten into him lately, but I know he's better than this.

Dark Matter is better than Light Years. It is not better than the version of Puzzles and Games I have in my head.

NAIS is much better than Breakerfall. More importantly, Gonna See My Friend is better than Breakerfall.

One thing I will say about these fast, high-energy type songs is that I appreciate that the band still feels compelled to strive for that style. They easily could have phoned-in the later part of their career by turning into some mid-tempo, alt-country band that just spits out one ballad after another. Maybe that's a bad description, I dunno. In other words, I'm glad the intent is still where it's at, even if they occasionally miss the mark with the results. They could play it safe and say "we're old, let's tone down the energy". They clearly don't want to do that and I respect them for that.

If I'm being 100% honest and authentic and not trying to play to the RM majority... Can't Deny Me is better.

Now, that's not to say that I dislike this song, not by any means. I've been a vocal supporter of CDM from the jump. I still think it's a great song and wildly underrated.

Perhaps Running will grow on me. There is still a lot of context (the full album) missing. But my gut reaction after listening to Running about 6 times so far is that CDM is better. But I also fully get why most RMers (or PJ fans in general) would disagree.

Just seeing if the math maths. I thought you liked Light Years way more than NAIS, but I must have confused it with puzzles and games. If it was LY, the math did not math:

Dark Matter > Light Years > running
Light Years > NAIS > dark matter > running

Turns out you do not like LY more than NAIS. all is well in the world.

Also, Breakerfall > running > gods dice > evacuation. And I didn’t know where you stood on breakerfall compared to NAIS.

it's been a long time since I heard CDM. I recall kind of liking the music.

Running grew on me a lot in a day.

Jesus Christ. Wrong on both counts. I’m starting to regret pre-ordering the book.

I listened to it like three times in a row and then took a few hours off and listened again. And I liked it more after the break. Sometimes the weight of expectation and excitement is unfair. I like Running but I need to hear it in a full album context, I think. These two songs, so far, don't feel cohesive to me. The same way, to be fair, that CDM didn't feel cohesive to LB or to what eventually became Gigaton.
