I strongly dislike the term "took" his own life. It's not like he took it and put it somewhere else. It's gone. He "ended" his life. "Destroyed", "terminated" it. Any synonym would suffice.

He took it away from everyone else. He took it away from this plane of existence. Perfectly acceptable.

Yes but when you take something, by definition you must possess it, unless you put it somewhere else. So you could say "he took it and then destroyed it", or something like that.

Have you guys seen the movie? I haven't. It gets great reviews, but it just seems like it would be an unpleasant watch.
