a few days out and this has stopped rising for me. probably a 3 or 3.5 depending on how the surrounding tracks go. sounds cohesive with dark matter

Significant improvement. This is now a 5 star song for me.

In all seriousness, that’s cool. It actually IS better without the yeah yeah yeahs and I love when the RM community messes around with new versions of songs.
Ok maybe someone could put the first verse of seven ol o'clock with the final verse of Quick Escape and of course the outro to Quick Escape

I have only heard the song twice so far. I am sure I will listen more once I hear it in the album.

I'm really high on Running. First off the vocal intro could go. I would bring Mike up just a bit not alot though I like in kind of under it all a bit. I would bring Ed down a tiny bit. I would lengthen the Bass intro. That all being said I don't see this dropping lower than a 4.5. I really wonder if it is being heard. I thing some spritz pukers have created a bit of Pearl Jam listening PTSD. So if a song starts to remind people Ole' or Can't Deny they tune out.

Sounds to me like a female.

So I assumed it was either Olivia or Stone.
I have yet to hear this. Going to give it another listen. Perhaps this is proof of my damaged hearing and why I tolerate and maybe even enjoy this production.

I think you’re on to something. Just mash together all the best parts of the best 5 star PJ and you’ll have yourself the ultimate frankenstinian masterpiece.

FWIW I could only hear that once I listened to the wifi highest quality version on Spotify.

Just listened to Seven O'Clock and Running came on after and it really worked...like it really made sense. I think Running will be a very good album/mix song.

Yeah, I'm team "this ain't spritz" here. You can definitely feel where it might turn that direction in the intro, but they steer away.

that's what I thought at first too. I'll come back to this after I give it some thought. The trigger moment was wondering if the 'she can fuck off' moment at the end was about death (which eddie personified as female in Comes then Goes) and then hearing some of the other imagery in a different context

So it’s another song about Vicky Cornell

Oooh I like where this is going. First question: what is Comes Then Goes about? I didn’t pick up on it being about death, although I can see where it touches on themes of ephemeralness.

Similarly, I don’t think Running is about death per se, but I do think the concept of running out of time is central to its theme. The impending end of life (Eddie’s own life or the world going to hell) is the driving force for the manic efforts and screaming and thrashing against it.

What I couldn’t place was how personal and specific some of the lines were. Like how could this not be about some specific individual or situation? So your idea that it’s death personified is really interesting.

Death is a shitty plumber.

boats sinking, water running, running against the natural attrition that comes with battling time, personal agency, backed-up plumbing.
He's had his own mortality and the precarious nature of mother earth on his mind for over a decade now..

This is definitely more of the same

I'm all for thematic consistency, but, there's a part of me that's starting to wish he would broaden his lyrical topics out a bit more than he has in the past however many years.
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

When you average 5 years between albums, perhaps it’s not so easy to shift topics since we didn’t do anything about the environment since the last time they released an album?
