Red Mosquito has never been united around a new album being good since at least Binaural, with the arguable exception of Gigaton and maybe S/Tliebzz wrote:Usually, it’s the current new album is great, the last one sucked, and this other one we used to say sucks is now the underrated gem of the catalogue. We’re all just a series of AI hot takes. The original takes haven’t been acceptable in years.

Binaural was a long time ago, but I think it did split the Pearl Jam online community.
Gigaton was the most peaceful I can remember since Yield.

Wilco is the only band where the new album serves to unite the fanbase in finally accepting the one prior.
A new album to hate allows the positive qualities of the last one to shine through.
We haven't achieved that level of consensus here since the board re-booted.

We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

I think that's pretty much every fanbase (newer albums recontextualizing old ones - they make it easier to appreciate a record for what it was trying to do, rather than hold the full weight of a fan base's needs and expectations)

A Thousand Leaves - B+
Murray St - A+
Sonic Nurse - A+
Rather Ripped - A
(The Eternal - D)

Deep in the midst of my annual John Zorn deep dive, but, I'll make time to check a few of these out, cause I'm a swell fella.tragabigzanda wrote:Probably Sonic Nurse, but I’d pick Murray St on a different day.
Rather Ripped is surprising for how relatively straightforward it is. The songs have actual hooks.

In the early 90's it seemed like it would be amazing to grow old with Pearl Jam and its fans. This is proof that dream did not become a reality.

Did you envision yourself living in an ashram full of fellow Pearl Jam fans when you grew up?Ledbetterdays wrote:In the early 90's it seemed like it would be amazing to grow old with Pearl Jam and its fans. This is proof that dream did not become a reality.

Well, I had to look up ashram--which I appreciate because I like to learn things--and the answer is no. In 2024 neither Pearl Jam nor their fans are cool (too old and cranky) and an ashram full would be like going to a movie theater and listening to the new album in the dark with them.oneway23 wrote:Did you envision yourself living in an ashram full of fellow Pearl Jam fans when you grew up?Ledbetterdays wrote:In the early 90's it seemed like it would be amazing to grow old with Pearl Jam and its fans.
