It’s hard for me to parse whether the prequel defenders truly believe the prequels are better than the sequels on creative grounds, or if it’s just alt-right trolling. If I recall the dialogue correctly, the backlash’s seeds were planted well before The Force Awakens was even released (when the casting decisions were announced). I have strong doubts that this prequel-reappraisal movement is about aesthetics.

It’s we simple as this. The kids who grew up with the prequels as they’re Star Wars?
They’re adults now. And the prequels are still their Star Wars.

Nothing convoluted or sinister it’s just the one they grew up with.

Tbh I’ve never read a single one of the EU books except the Thrawn book. And that was enough. So much stupid stuff in there. Thrawn is a cool character but the rest? Nah thanks.

I think you can see the shock and disappointment in that TPM documentary when George Lucas and co. just finished watching the first cut of the movie. I think they knew they had shit.

I still find it hard to believe that Disney started making the sequel trilogy without a plan in place. The incompetence is staggering.

Disney dint make Star Wars. They release it and market it. Lucasfiom makes Star Wars. And yes there’s a huge difference.
Lucas didn’t have a plan for the ot.

It would be next to impossible to get a director and creative crew locked in for what would probably be 15 years work from start to finish. Doesn’t work that way sadly.

Cut the casino nonsense out and it’s great. There’s nothing to love in that entire sequence apart from the casino set and costumes and creature design. And it adds nothing to the story really.

I’ve always said this. Nothing new.

I get that he was trying to be political with the Canto Bight, but it’s so ham-handed, and the story around it so poor, that it has the opposite effect.

But there are several other poor segments. Poor humor. Poor handling of characters. A misunderstanding of what Star Wars. Which weirdly, none of the tv shows have in such an amount. It also works againat what TFA ser up. Just the completely wrong director chosen.

TFA has some major flaws, but you could still leave the movie hoping for a solid trilogy. Also has some excellent scenes, and some inspired casting.

TROS is a fun acceptable response to the dross that preceded it.

I wish Finn had a better trilogy, and Poe, and Han, and Kylo, and Luke. Think both the actors and the characters introduced in TFA were excellent.
