Curious how long the buzz will last. Will we talk about this as much as Gigaton? Less? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

I'm trying to recall...
I think RM is where I got Riot Act several months early (fall 2003?)... and the 5 or 6 song Avacado rough cut seemed well in advance of the album as well.
5H was pretty much gone by 2003,right?

Like always at a new album cycle I go back and spend sometime with previous albums. So yesterday I revised my least favorite. Lightning Bolt . Least favorite doesn't mean I don't enjoy it I do. Listening yesterday I realized something about it. That is its not really a rock record. I started to hear much more as a pop record. The middle stretch Sirens,Lb and Infallible are just pure pop to my ears as is the final 4. Pendulum My Father's Son and Mym offer some sort of a line back to 94, but it isn't direct that's for sure.
Dark Matter by all accounts isn't coming across as a pop record at all. Which I think bodes well . There will always be pop moments. Ed and Stone are both obviously influenced greatly by pop. My sense is this will be a bit of a mix of S/T and Riot Act in scope.

Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
yeah I don't really mind "iffy" pop production if we're getting some Binaural / Riot Act influence; that could create some welcome (if not intentional) paradoxical push and pull in the sound, and do it more successfully than Lightning Bolt did

I've really enjoyed the first two songs and looking forward to chatting more about the rest.liebzz wrote:Curious how long the buzz will last. Will we talk about this as much as Gigaton? Less? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
I had to take a break though because all the talk became overly negative, which I understand and respect as part of this place and the process.
Still, needed to just sit with these tunes on my own for a bit.
In terms of revisiting old music, I listened to I got Id / Long Road the other day....my goodness that is just perfect.

Some listening party reviewers mentioned that a couple of new songs reminded them of old 90s PJ so…Coach wrote:I've really enjoyed the first two songs and looking forward to chatting more about the rest.liebzz wrote:Curious how long the buzz will last. All signs point to this being more divisive than Gigaton so it will generate a ton of debateliebzz wrote:Curious how long the buzz will last. Will we talk about this as much as Gigaton? Less? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Gigaton poll has 81% 4+ stars. Tall order to reach that level of consensus again.Jorge wrote:All signs point to this being more divisive than Gigaton so it will generate a ton of debateliebzz wrote:Curious how long the buzz will last.
