Dark Matter came up on shuffle 30 minutes or so ago. 1/2 Full was on one side. Breakerfall on the other. I can hear your issue with the drums (which I almost certainly would not have until you drew attention to it), but I don't mind. What he's playing matters more to me than how he sounds. There are maybe three bands I can think of off hand where I really pay close attention to the drums as a matter of course (The Pumpkins, Tool, and James). The rest of the song fit right in (especially Eddie's vocal, which will be the thing I listen for the most). It sounded different, but still of an organic piece.

Same way you could hear porch go into 1/2 full and say, “yep same band”.

Time and evolution .

Nah…You’d hear the evolution in production and playing style, but it would still sound human.

I genuinely hope you love it, definitely wouldn't hold it against you, but, I'd probably think you were a bigger hypocrite than your hero Ed.

Plus, Mike Watt would consider it a bitter betrayal should you give the Wotman a redemption arc.
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…
