What topics should be covered in a review for it to be interesting? When it comes to news, PJ is pretty boring. They don't have any dead drummers or drug problems. They are alive. Its obvious the press have to fabricate the tension.

the music - that's all I care about; as a writer you've got to be good at describing the music, something that Pearl Jam reviewers frequently fail at as hard as PJ themselves

Yeah this is a travesty. And he should have had an invite to the listening party.

Not one review has mentioned Ed's hats yet.

That's pretty impressive about the Black Keys. I had no idea they were such a large act

I've heard "Just Breathe" and "Last Kiss" out in public about ten times more often than I've ever heard "Idioteque"

tragabigzanda wrote:I don’t remember who said Radiohead is a more difficult band to get into than Pearl Jam. Anyway, while I do t disagree, they have enough songs that have been adopted by the coffee house playlist set that I’m not surprised by their numbers. Separator, Idioteque, I Might Be Wrong, High and Dry, probably a few others.

Now I’m mad that Wishlist hasn’t seen the same sort of success.
yeah, mostly stuff from The Bends i agree

I think bands make like $.005 per stream on Spotify so for Pearl Jam that equates to like $900k per year before the label takes their cut. That’s decent money for you or me but a nothing burger for them. Helps explain why there are 137 vinyl variants and tickets are now $250 a pop.

Especially when streaming is the primary way people listen these days. Without the physical media market (beyond niche vinyl collectors, essentially), the industry is totally different than it used to be. No wonder it seems like everyone is always touring.

They will earn at least 5x more in a single show than do from an entire year of Spotify streaming revenue. Now, they have a bunch of expenses on the road but unless you’re getting billions of listens per year it just can’t even come close to matching. No wonder all these artists are selling off their catalogs…

You know it's well past time for this mediocre record to leak when we're talking about hipster coffee houses and Coldplay streaming stats.
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…
