I'm sorry to be mean but that is one of the worst written reviews I've ever read

It reads like a very long post on a Pearl Jam forum

I think there's two things I want out of a review, depending on whether or not the music is out/I can access it. if something is already out, I read reviews for insights into the album - deeper dives into themes, descriptions of the music that help unlock what I'm hearing that I may not be able to fully process, or phrasing that puts it into words better than I could do. I look for a review to enhance my experience of the album.

Prior to an album coming out I mostly want detailed descriptions of how a song physically sounds - either through direct descriptions or, failing that (or supplementing it) connections to prior catalog moments as short hand.

I only read that review once. It didn't do the former, but I feel like I walked out of it with a more robust understanding of what to expect next.

I'm just judging it as a piece of writing. It's awful

"Andrew Watt was a much needed change as producer. He simplified their process and pushed electrified creativity"

That last one is for trag. Trag, it isn't bad production, it's just electrified creativity!

i dont mind starting with the COVID stuff as a hook. I am not a professional, but most of my reviews start with long meta-tangents. But you do need to connect it to the album you are reviewing, and that doesn’t happen here

I had almost the exact same though, we're at the beginning of the end

I'm still optimistic about this album, but even if it stinks Gigaton has proven that they're capable of turning things around.
