It’s been a long while since I listened to this. I may rectify that in the next couple of days.

Not doing much for this extra, really just the album and Merkinball, but this is particularly worthy in my eyes and maybe the best Jack Irons will ever sound with Pearl Jam. More on that to come:

Mirrorball: Song X, Act of Love, I’m the Ocean, Big Green Country, Truth Be Known, Downtown, What Happened Yesterday, Peace and Love, Throw Your Hatred Down, Scenery, Fallen Angel

Merkinball: I Got Id, Long Road

I doubt it will get released before the announcement of Volume IV but I would wager it will get a separate release.

edit: also it's Neil, literally anything could happen.

This album has held up well over the years. Merkinball too.

Today was actually my first listen to Mirrorball in a while - getting Neil back on Spotify is very helpful in that respect. It’s been nearly 30 years and yet still somehow this album keeps getting better every time I hear it. The obvious greats like Song X, Act of Love, I’m the Ocean, Downtown, Peace and Love, and Throw Your Hatred Down still resonate with me, but I sort of noticed Big Green Country, Truth Be Known, and Scenery a whole lot more on this listen - all top notch and rely Neil’s tone and reverb as mood setters. Jack Irons is also playing nearly above his pay grade - his groove with Neil Young’s guitar is about as natural a fit in bringing warmth and depth. You can really hear it on I Got Id as well, with Jack’s jamming with Neil on the solo just perfect. At least at this point, Pearl Jam was still undefeated, even with a different lead singer.

I avoided calling Mirroball my favorite Neil Young record for a very long time, as i didnt want to seem to eager to love everything pearl jam did, or come across as some dude who only enjoyed it because pearl jam...

But goddamnit, it is top tier Neil and would definitely be in discussion for being in his top 5.

Scenery is a fantastic song.

All yes, though I am most partial to On the Beach followed probably by Rust Never Sleeps. That said, Mirrorball is definitely in my top 10 from Neil Young I think. There’s just so many albums and so many great ones at that.

Broken Arrow was a good one too
Mirrorball kind of took that sound up a notch

Love Jack's drumming on Mirrorball and Merkinball
Neil's solo on I got ID is one of my all time favorites

I also love what Brendan O'Brien is doing on keys and organ on this record. It's just great!

I wished Neil would have made more records with him in those years. Also surprising Neil never asked Jack back to drum in one of his many albums or bands..
