Yacht Rock
I was born in 77 and grew up in a house where the radio was always on. As much as I love “Dam That River” and “Slaves and Bulldozers,” this has become my genre of choice over the past couple years.
The yacht rock station on iheart radio is on daily in my house during dinner prep, dinner, and the washing up. Today I put on “Lost 80s” at the recommendation of a friend. While we were cleaning up, my 14-year-old asked, “Trying a new station?” I said, “Yeah, why? Do you miss yacht rock?” He said he did. I asked, “Really?” and he replied, “Come Monday, this better be back to yacht rock.”
I expect this thread to die quickly, but if there are fellow fans, I’ll start with this: “Margaritaville” is the quintessential yacht rock anthem, but “Come Monday” is gorgeous and should be Buffet’s best known song.

Re: Yacht Rock
I have never heard the term before.
Found this now: The term yacht rock was coined in 2005 by the makers of the online video series Yacht Rock, who connected the music with the popular Southern Californian leisure activity of boating. It is considered a pejorative term. Prominent artists that have been labeled "yacht rock" include Christopher Cross, the Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Rupert Holmes, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Toto, and Supertramp.

Re: Yacht Rock
I saw Toto once. They were playing downtown Oslo in a free concert. I didn't even know they were going to play, I just walked by. But they did have quite a bit of chart success here way back.
Found the concert as I was making this post.

My son is 10 and loves Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley. I hold my head in my hands and wonder what I did wrong.

Toto is a group of fantastic musicians. But other than the hits they’ve had I know next to nothing about them.
liebzz, you need to make The Dan your next exploration.

Re: Yacht Rock
I’d like to share some of my favorites, and I’m going to start with the most troublesome one. You have to get past the first lyric because it’s a huge bummer, but the chorus is absolutely stunning. The video would be admissible evidence in court.

Minus that creepy first line that mardones song is great.. I guess that shit was perfectly normal in the 70s
There's a yacht rock tribute band around here called boathouse row n I wanna see them bad, heard it's a great time
