I'd be truly shocked if they were using amp pedals (to achieve OD) and not going through actual tube amps. Maybe something with their signal chains using Wottman's equipment so that it sounds vastly different?

I really think you're hearing what was done in production/engineering/mixing and not recording.

In any event, it's nice to actually hear distorted guitars in a PJ song. First time since what, ST? I grew real tired of the bluesy crunch (and in some cases I could barely detect any semblance of overdrive). I mean, are there even guitars in Infallible? Sounds like a bunch of synths.

Idk man — I know the sound of tube gain distortion vs digital simulated distortion. There’s a synthetic quality to the consistency of breakup that happens with sims, and that’s fairly apparent on these.

Valid, but I've heard some pretty synthetic SOUNDING tones come from Mesa/Marshall tubes - bands I know who use them religiously (esp the former). Certain pop punk groups have a sound that's REALLY synthetic but are playing through MESA amps (early 2000s).

You could be right, but man that would be a head scratcher. I can't see Stone settling for amp sims/OD amp pedals played through a clean channel on a fender amp.

yeah, i hate the guitars on LB, i really do. Only MYM and some moments on MFS maybe...Sirens or Yellow Moon, but overall everything sounds awful there.

I'm really curious (and nervous) about how our first acoustic guitars for this album will sound, I think that'll be pretty decisive

Once we didn't get any more clips after running within a few days I felt like they were going to follow the Gigaton method.

with 9 tracks left to reveal, they will start on the 10th with the observer again and there will be a new one each day until the 18th (that's 9 days).

Then the release on 4/19. Exactly what they did with Gig clips. It makes too much sense.

Having already heard 2 tracks out of 11, I don't want to hear anything else until release day. We're only 2 weeks away, I'll live. I've just never been one of those people who wants to open presents before Christmas.

I don't think it's emulator pedals, I think it's software. They may have amps in the room being mic'd for reference but there's something happening on the software side that is having an impact aesthetically that *feels* like a pure software based amp emulation.

Like, you could say “how might you improve on the sound of Yield?” Then I’d point to records like Wildflowers or Zuma as being a couple quick examples of records that live in the same sonic ballpark, but have more articulate presentation of the drums, more depth to the soundstage, things like that

Not big on Zuma personally, even down to how it sounds, but Wildflowers is a great pick. Has a glorious sound.

b) it is so absolutely authentic Mike with the way the notes are being played

c) what even is “typical”? Mike’s best solos are unexpected in some way. This one lets you know immediately with that screeeeeetch that comes out of the drum fill that it’s gonna rip

Yeah, I know. I was addressing tone with point a. I love it, no matter how much weight it may need to put on.
