It was my understanding that he produced it and appeared on a few tracks

Ah. Thanks for the clarification. I think Beck’s adventurousness permeates throughout if that helps.

Yeah I'm about halfway in and really enjoying it. The songs w/ Noel Gallagher are great too, On The Game is a highlight so far as is the opening track (Nowhere). The cover of Forgot To Be Your Lover is solid too

Wasn't expecting to like it much.
I thought I'd have Auerbach burnout after The Arcs made it to my top 10 albums of 2023.
Yet here we are.

Vinyl roulette picked Turn Blue for me today. I was reluctant as in the past I've really disliked this album, but turns out it's a lot stronger than I remember it being

It certainly has its ups and downs but Weight of Love is an all timer for them. Glorious excess.

Re: The Black Keys
for me it’s their best record since the mid-00s. it’s not like any of those old records, of course, but i feel it’s their only record since then where they pushed themselves a bit and made a truly solid album. i think it’s vastly underrated. and weight of love might really be their best song, i’m glad they started playing it again at their shows.

I think Turn Blue is great, it was indeed a step aside at the time but I really thought it was a nice cohesion of what they were trying to do in branching out... which is never easy.AndySlash wrote:for me it’s their best record since the mid-00s. it’s not like any of those old records, of course, but i feel it’s their only record since then where they pushed themselves a bit and made a truly solid album. i think it’s vastly underrated. and weight of love might really be their best song, i’m glad they started playing it again at their shows.
I am really enjoying the latest album though probably the most spins of a BK record since Turn Blue actually.

Re: The Black Keys
i haven't had time to listen to the new one yet, actually. i did have tix for the show here in the fall that got canceled along with the rest of the tour - it would have been my first time seeing them since 2008. we'll see what they do about that as far as a new tour- ticket buyers were told they'd have first crack at whatever tix, and if it's reasonable i'll still go.oasisfan35 wrote:I think Turn Blue is great, it was indeed a step aside at the time but I really thought it was a nice cohesion of what they were trying to do in branching out... which is never easy.AndySlash wrote:for me it’s their best record since the mid-00s. it’s not like any of those old records, of course, but i feel it’s their only record since then where they pushed themselves a bit and made a truly solid album. i think it’s vastly underrated. and weight of love might really be their best song, i’m glad they started playing it again at their shows.

Re: The Black Keys
I also saw them in 2008, at the Orpheum in Boston. I thought it was a great show and the room was the perfect size, I believe it may have been sold out with Attack and Release doing really well. Next was opening for Pearl Jam at the Garden, which even as a four piece was far too big a room for them though to be fair a lot of people were yet to get to their seat. Last would have been headlining the Firefly fest in 2012 and it simply did not work. I was surprised to hear of the big venue tour but not at all when it was cancelled.AndySlash wrote:i haven't had time to listen to the new one yet, actually. i did have tix for the show here in the fall that got canceled along with the rest of the tour - it would have been my first time seeing them since 2008. we'll see what they do about that as far as a new tour- ticket buyers were told they'd have first crack at whatever tix, and if it's reasonable i'll still go.oasisfan35 wrote:I think Turn Blue is great, it was indeed a step aside at the time but I really thought it was a nice cohesion of what they were trying to do in branching out... which is never easy.AndySlash wrote:for me it’s their best record since the mid-00s. it’s not like any of those old records, of course, but i feel it’s their only record since then where they pushed themselves a bit and made a truly solid album. i think it’s vastly underrated. and weight of love might really be their best song, i’m glad they started playing it again at their shows.
