So I checked the DM movie situation here in Pittsburgh in case this thing somehow doesn’t leak and the 8:00pm show is basically sold out and they added a second show lol. Seems kinda nutty to me…
there are empty seats at Bs showing

Hoping it leaks today. The owner of the record store here is a creep so I’d rather not go to his store for the listening party

lol. No but he has a lawsuit against him because cameras were found in the bathrooms. He said he didn’t put them there but that seems unlikely

Mentally, I had prepared myself for a leak one week before release. Finding it hard to cope now that that didn't happen. Lol. I'll take a leak today or tomorrow. It really can't be later than tomorrow, right? Record stores allowing people to just come in and listen with no restrictions on recording means that a shitty phone recording at least should surface (if one record store owner doesn't leak the digital copy).

A couple of other interesting things from that Eddie interview:

1. They’ve never been good at planning the direction or vision of a record. They don’t usually have a vision for an album; they just play and see where it goes.

2. Since their songs “natural habitat” is the live environment, and they write them with the intention of optimizing them for live performance, that seems to put pressure on them to do all the stuff that surrounds a record (touring, marketing, etc.). I wish these interviewers would ask them: what if they’re just made music for the sake of it and skip all that other stuff? It’s weird that the band has locked in and thinks this is the way it has to be.

3. Eddie does not seem super connected to whoever is doing their marketing. He didn’t seem to know the real idea behind the dark matter theaterical experience, which suggests they have some other people making marketing decisions/running that side of the PJ business somewhat independently.

That's an important point to highlight, fattie. They seem really locked in to the idea of needing to undertake the entire record release cycle in order to put something out, almost as a matter of band policy.

He said they "don't want to fuck their kids up by leaving them too long", and when the DJs brought up the idea of just putting something out without the necessity for the entire machine to rev up, they may as well have been speaking Klingon or Esperanto.

Ed did seem more open to the idea as something to potentially explore as they age.

We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

I'd genuinely consider putting my sweet booty on the block in order to put Harper through college if it meant an album a year.

Do records leak this far in advance these days? I thought one or two days, tops.

Does 2020 count as "these days"? If yes, I remember hearing Gigaton on 20 March in my timezone. It was released on 27 March.

Lightning Bolt had a mini leak (about half the songs). I think it was a promo disc or something. Gigaton was around a week in advance.

Correct. They never really "leak", as such, anymore. Usually have to wait until Qobuz in Australia releases something.

You heard Gigaton because I had an acquaintance connected to a friend I no longer have communication with.

I pre-saved DM on Spotify and it shows me a countdown to the album release based on my timezone (UTC+5): 5 days, 5 hours and 32 minutes to go as I type this.
