i had trouble sleeping and got up early, so excited i was for news. this is underwhelming

Just came back from an Amsterdam listening event.

Its a bit of a weird surrounding, and not the best speakers. But some first impressions.

Overall its strong! It has some of that cathartic energy that we all fell for in the 90s. The band didnt sound this energyzed since a long long time.

Scared of fear is a strong opener that felt as a logical successor of 'who ever said'. React respond was one of my favorites. It has 'jeff' written all over it. From 'my fathers son' to 'quick escape' was a huge step forwards. Now, take that step again! Wreckage, wont tell and upper hand are all midtempo. But sounded great. I really enjoyed upper hand. WFS was really old school PJ done by modern day PJ. Cant wait to hear it again. It has a huge Mike solo supported by ferocious fills from Matt. Running worked great as an album track! Something special should have been a b-side. Its a fun Kinks like song, but the only misstep here. Got the give and setting sun sounded great again. But really needed more listens.

Appreciate you indulging us. Seems like a lot aligns with many of the reviews/impressions.

Sounds like this place will be grasping at straws until Friday (or a high quality leak).

I refuse to hear entire songs in shit quality my first go around. As far as “reviews” from listening party goers - eh. What will be said that we haven’t already heard? Pure opinion.

There’s a listening event about an hour from me in DC at 6, but it’s in a really, really terrible area crime wise (dc is a fucking war zone these days). Prob not worth the trip with a newborn and it would draw the ire of the wife.

Guess I’ll grab a ticket for the theater event 15 mins from me. Not much to say until then unless we have a leak. Time to focus on the beautiful weather we have here and of course, Sunday at The Masters - a tradition unlike any other!

Can you draw comparisons to other songs either by them or other artists?

Thats too early. Overall the midtempo songs like wont tell or got to give all sound urgent. Urgent in a way that 'given to fly' or 'in hiding' also did. Not as good as those songs, but when compared to 7 o clock or Sirens for instance they just way more urgent and melodic with plenty of guitar. Upper hand was one of the highlights. It has lots of keys. But done better than 7 o clock. I can still hum the riff of WFS. Along with wreckage and dm the most likely to be singles. Before running there was a hidden track. Or a short song collage. Like they did on vitalogy. Something special really should have been a b-side. It felt a bit out of place. It this listening party was a focus group it would have suggested to keep it off the album. People started to loose focus and talk during this song. So far everyone was quiet.

Fairfax. Tried to inquire with Mobius here and they didn’t respond. I did however get a response from the 10c when I emailed them and asked if they could try and get Mobius to host. Ultimately nothing came of it, just that they would make an attempt. Obviously, unsuccessful.

Genuinely I heard him say he loved Lightning Bolt before the play through happened. It’s not worth it. I’ll check out the vinyl on Friday.
