completely, but the transition is so completely *weird* and jarring, and then again at Something Special, it kinda works as kooky in a good waystip wrote:the interstitial between Waiting for Stevie and Running is lovely. It's kind of wasted on Running

Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
none of Gigaton's top songs came out the gate as top songs for me, so time will tell. I'm not sure there's anything as good as Dance. Gigaton has a little more sonic variety (I think - the phone recording is kind of flattening everything out).Birds in Hell wrote:Very mixed impressions so far.
The opening three songs were OK - React, Respond and Wreckage in particular both sounded pretty good.
Much less keen on everything I'm hearing after. Running sounded stronger in context and genuinely felt like a welcome reprieve after the stretch from Dark Matter through Waiting for Stevie, which was pretty hard-going.
It's possible further listens will reveal hidden depths but I'm not sure there's anything here remotely as strong as Gigaton's high points.

I do agree that Running is very well placed on the actual record.

Waiting for Stevie is killer. I think every PJ fan will enjoy this one, regardless of what eras or particulars you like.

Gigaton was important because it was so hugely better than LB; this one isn't better, I don't think, but I like it just as much for totally different reasonsdimejinky99 wrote:stip wrote:Sound quality is terrible. Saying this publicly. This one is obvious as all fuck. It’s resting on laurels.
In time people will see Gigaton as the more important and interesting one.

Having only a few minutes, I listened to Scared of Fear and React Respond. I mean, from what I can hear, I really like both. I like Scared of Fear more on first listen but it doesn’t mean much because I can’t really tease out much. It will be Friday when I hear this proper I am guessing.

Ranking this based off this recording is wild.
After the theater, all bets are off, though.

very interesting to see that it seems the album has lots of things going on, which is something i could expect after they released DM but i was hesitant after Running or Something Special.

I listened to Scared of Fear then stopped. I’ll wait until a Friday. Sounds good so far.
