I don't think it's executed very well, but it looks nice. The writing is terrible, the humor often falls flat, and the action is amateurish. Sticks pretty close to the source, but it's all surface.

It does ok with the black comedy of Fallout, but there are other parts with that sort of Gen Z meta-humor crammed in that annoyed the shit out of me.

There's something about the violence that doesn't work for me, but I don't know what it is. Like, it's funny in the games when you vaporize someone's head or blow them into chunks of meat, but for some reason it didn't translate for me. Part of it is that the fight scenes would go one FOREVER. Maybe if the people getting blasted were more hateable or mockable, that might have worked better. Really lean into the dark comedy more. I dunno. Maybe I was just in a bad mood.

I was pretty sure that by the season’s end we were going to get:
Spoiler: show
Some sort of tease of Super Mutants. When the other squire got that serum that grew his foot back, I thought, “Damn, this is it! FEV action!” It was certainly implied in the Vault-Tec meeting, but I thought we’d get something visual. My second guess for a tease was something to do with deathclaws, so at least we got that!

I know some dorks on the internet are upset about this, and it seems like they’re concerned about “canon,” which is hilarious considering the game has multiple possible endings and the timeline allows a few decades in between.

I’ve never played the game, but this show is great.

My wife and I LOVE fallout. I was totally expecting the show to be terrible but to my amazement it’s really good. Captures all the little things that make the game unique. And the story is good. About halfway through.

Season 2 is coming in December, which is earlier than I expected.

I have to imagine somewhere in the first three episodes of Season 2, someone is going to say, “Hey! Let’s take a shortcut through the quarry.”

Just binged this over the last couple days. It’s great! Never played the games and probably never will but it sounds like the show does them proud. I was especially impressed with Ella Purnell and Aaron Moten, having never seen them in anything before. And Goggins is, of course, Goggins.

I do have a nagging feeling season 2 won’t look quite as great. They clearly spent a ton of money on this season’s production and I don’t trust Amazon. Fingers crossed! December?
