WFS is like Hold On mixed with I Got Shit chorus mixed with TOTD. It is very cool.

Waiting for Stevie is the home run of home runs.

They still got it.

Jeff, my man.

Finally.

Goosebumps.

Thank you so much for sharing! I caved in and listened to it. Great album! I can’t wait to hear it in high quality.

I do wish there was maybe one more uptempo song in the second half. Scared of Fear and React, Respond are the big standouts to me on first listen. Wreckage, Waiting For Stevie and Got to Give are great too. Need to hear the actual high quality album to make final judgements but loving what I’m hearing overall.

Running and Something Special are the two worst tracks on the album, in my opinion.

Wreckage would've been a "safe" single but I'm glad they didn't use it. PJ haven't really ever played safe on their singles.

Got To Give is the most "easy listening" song, joyful, but one of the best.
Agree with this. I’m not a huge fan of the song Dark Matter but it makes sense as the first single. React/respond and Won’t Tell also feel like singles in addition to the ones you mentioned.

Upper hand starts.
i'm avoiding the phone leak to hear it for the first time at the cinemas tomorrow.

what does everyone think should have been the first single? or the next single?
DM kind of works as a single, tbh.

Running does not.
Dark Matter works, Running does not...

React/Respond is just fire but not sure about a single.

Wreckage for sure.

Waiting for Stevie is too long for a single but it would have killed in 93. That last minute is straight 10/Vs era Pearl Jam, and all the proof we need that they can still deliver like that.

Upper Hand feels like something but I'm not sure if it'd play. It's like Yellow Ledbetter and Hard to Imagine had a baby.
React/respond would have been a cool single.

SoF would have been safer.

I'll give it that.

I can't wait to get a copy to listen to WFS, it's getting a ton of love here but I didn't think much of it at all on my first listen.

Kill me if you want, but the verses on Something Special are catchy as hell.

Being what it is, this is miles better than Sleeping by myself.

I wonder what song they’ll choose to open some shows on tour? They seem to like to do that with a new album

I love the weirdness of starting with that double-time The Edge riff so you're expecting another crescendo, then halfing the tempo for the rest of the song; there are various weird, brief musical diversions in the album and I'm here for it; they experimented with that on Gigaton and they've turned it up to 11 here

But to come in and shit on someone whos just enjoying a pseudo leak today.... just says more about you that you are just being a dick on the internet to be a dick. Which isnt who you are.....

its lame.

Love you.
Well it obviously is who I am since I’m doing it
Seriously though…We all bring our biases and preconceived notions. Most seem to start from a position of “it’s pearl jam so I’ll probably love it.” I think it’s limiting, and it also enables the commercial relationship the band has formed with their audience in which they can coast in six weeks a year…

Come to think of it, maybe they were trying to warn us with Army Reserve.
To your first point, isn’t that just fandom? Most of the time the new listener luster wears off and those biases and preconceived notion’s are challenged more. For many, these first impressions and experiences will be the high water mark, and that’s ok. Swinging for the opposite fence out of the gates is perfectly valid but I don’t see how it is less limiting, or even superior, as you seem to be projecting it to be.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this board today. The handwritten reports, shitty leaks and engaging conversation has enriched this release, regardless of how the music will eventually hold up. No one here should feel less than for enjoying it and being excited.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

I love the Uke Songs version of SBM, but as a poppy diversion on a PJ album I agree
