Yeah, for real, it's top notch
Even I liked that one on first listen.

Looking forward to hearing it in better quality.

I’m getting the feeling from all of these reviews that “Of the Earth” didn’t make it on to the album.

The end of React Respond reminds me of Live to Rise for some reason

I don't consider myself a cynical person, and I was definitely looking forward to this album, but with soundbytes like "our best work" and all the talk of very early 90s nostalgia captured, I thought they had to be shitting us

nope

Eight spins in, in various locations throughout my day.

Got To Give > Setting Sun is the crowning moment of this record. There are other aspects that also stick out - the feel of Waiting For Stevie, Ed's vocal on Upper Hand, the pre-chorus on Dark Matter... but those two to close it out is the highlight. This record does not fall off a cliff late, as a few of their albums have, in my opinion.

I was gonna stop after running through this 3 or 4 times but now I'm basically just listening React/Respond over and over :hooray:
Not sure they've sounded more urgent on a song in a very long time.

I caved and listened to Something Special on the iPhone recording. It's great everyone seems to be excited, but I truly don't think you can really take away much from such a low quality leak (listen party attendees aside).

I agree that this is the strongest 1-2 ending in ages. I have probably listened to Setting Sun more than anything from this leak. It's just so unique and feels like it sits alongside Of The Girl in its uniqueness.

oh man...
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Harm, that synth stuff you posted about earlier has to be intro to Upper Hand... perhaps they looped it or just cut out the intro guitar

But I'm too lazy to go back and find the original clip

First off a big thank you to the of you who did the heavy lifting.
I'm super impressed with this album . It could have 5 or 6 5star songs . It may be their best since Yield. Who knows it could be better depending on lyrics and getting a good copy. I must say to me the majority of these songs are just glorious for me to get to wrapped up in production. However on some song about half I'm hearing a well produced record.

Upper Hand, Wreckage, Won't Tell could all be absolutely top 20 songs I mean they are each so good
Despite missing a little something Wreckage is really something special. Upper Hand could one day be in my top 5 it is startling that they had this song in them
Won't Tell I've been in love since the leak . I think the subject matter and lyrics could really make this check all the boxes.

Got to Give and Setting Sun I'm prepared to say are the best 2 song ending set in the catalog. Providing the lyrics are at least good. Both 5 right now

WFS I hear Chris it's weird but I do again a 5

Guitar work on Something Special makes it worth listening to also it serves a nice mental break.

I have loved Running since day 1

I have to sit with the first 2 longer can't hear them that well.
BTW is Bluestates boot better than the first if so hook me up

Did Watt or Stone mention who wrote the riff for Stevie on interviews? Don't remember reading about it anywhere, curious to know where everyone's getting that fron

My first listen will probably be on the way to a funeral on Friday morning. Maybe I'll hold off till the evening and have a beer with it.

I’ve wondered this too (and I’m one of those who’ve frequently mentioned it).

I know they’ve talked about it at some stage and how the song had its genesis during the Earthling sessions.

I’ll try to track back the source later.

In a weird but good way this album really sounds like it was recorded in a few weeks. Production aside, you can tell these songs are very jam based and especially evident on many of the outros (this album might have more than any of their previous work). Too many?

Why let a legitimate source get in the way of speculation?!

Never! This was a hallmark of their early work.
