The opening drum beat of Got to Give was very familiar to me. At first I thought Walk this Way by Aerosmith but then it hit me, it's Hard to Handle by the Black Crowes...now, it quickly transitions but I can't unhear it...love the song btw.

I might have been wrong on original reaction to Wreckage. That bridge obviously doesn't hit Corduroy levels but it does do something in the feels.

That's interesting because I had commented on how Setting Sun has a Black Crowes song structure feel to it. Those last two songs just have a lot of American Roots Rock built into them.Homeboyd wrote:The opening drum beat of Got to Give was very familiar to me. Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
I tried to pick up some of the lyrics here and there…I have a theory, mentioning of King Diamond, “We use to laugh, we used to sing, we had our own scene”, “the last one standing”, and most of setting sun lyrics, “see what I see now” Kingdom Come, “Am I the only one hanging on”…
Could his state of mind on this album and overall thematic somehow a tribute to all of the seattle musicians/friends that died? I keep getting the feeling that is something of a reflection on how “he made it”…hence the hopefull vibe, and some bittersweet sentiment on setting sun they should all be here.
He touched upon this in Brother the Cloud…
Well, just some rambling before getting the full lyrics sheet.

If anyone call tell me where I can easily do a free upload of a 48 min sound file from an Android phone I'll put this up for anyone still needing it. My recording sounds decent at a high volume. A little talking but I think most would still like the quality.

I think the original mention is this Variety interview promoting Earthling where Ed says he and Wotman banged it together during those sessions:Monkey_Driven wrote:Why let a legitimate source get in the way of speculation?!Birds in Hell wrote:I’ve wondered this too (and I’m one of those who’ve frequently mentioned it).DrSelker wrote:Did Watt or Stone mention who wrote the riff for Stevie on interviews? Don't remember reading about it anywhere, curious to know where everyone's getting that fron
I know they’ve talked about it at some stage and how the song had its genesis during the Earthling sessions.
I’ll try to track back the source later.
In his recent SPIN interview, when asked about the song, Stone said: “Andrew had more to do with that song than any song on the record …”Wonder kept Vedder and Watt waiting for six hours before he showed up to the studio (says Vedder: “In between, we wrote a song, and it’s gonna be a Pearl Jam song, and right now the working title is ‘Waiting for Stevie.’”).
So I don’t think the characterisation above is off-base (if anything, it sounds like he did more than just bring in the riff).

Yeah there's a heavy Springsteen vibe to me and it doesn't get any more American Rock than that. I may be crazy but Setting Sun had a little Jimmy Buffet feel to me. Not a lot, but it's there in the beginning. Both songs are open, honest uplifting tunes which are not exactly the type that PJ has done in the past.RockPusher wrote:That's interesting because I had commented on how Setting Sun has a Black Crowes song structure feel to it. We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
You're welcome. How's the sound quality compared to others that have been shared? I find that if you pump up the bass a little, dial back the treble and turn it up pretty high, it's very listenable.unLEASHed wrote:Working fine!
